Hi, my laptop (Dell XPS M1710) has been riddled with viruses, and now XP crashes when starting up (just gets to a certain point and restarts). Is a complete OS reinstall my only option? What are the steps I have to take for that?

Given how heavily your OS has been infected, backing up the data and reinstalling the OS seems like a better idea. Even if you clean off the viruses/malware sometimes they can hose settings/registry values.
