    Hi,

My Dell XPS M1710 is reaching its end of its life, and I've begun to start looking for a replacement.
I think that the coolness-factor is really important, so I'm doubting between the Dell XPS M1730, or an Alienware-laptop.

Which one would you advise? I'm a casual gamer, but I like a laptop which has the 'complete' package (good speakers, battery, ...).

I've read tons of reviews, but I can't decide, so please help me :)

    Thanks !

Simple answer... M17x. The M1730 currently being sold by Dell (at least here in the USA) is horrible in terms of price/specs. There is no reason to put 1200+ USD towards an 8700M GT system. Much better to put that $$ out for a M17x purchase. You will be getting DDR3 and 1066Mhz FSB support.

The M1730 is limited now and you will have a hard time upgrading the GPUs/CPU later. Just do a search on eBay and google for the 8800M GTX SLI card or the Intel x9000 CPU. This will give you an idea on options and current availability.

    M17x - enough said. ;)

M17x unless you can find one for sale w/ the 9800GT's for a good price.

I bought the 1730 from a member here recently, and I think it was a pretty good deal for what I am getting.
