Hello, I recently brought a XPS M1710 but whenever I use the dvd drive to install things (games, programs etc) the computer slows down alot, it takes me 2 minutes to open firefox during this. The problem though is that it also slows down the installation.

Check the transfer mode of the correct (usually secondary) IDE channel of the DVD drive and see if it is working at Ultra DMA mode (Go to Device Manager > IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers > Secondary IDE channel [get the properties] > Advanced Settings Tab) if the Current transfer mode is PIO then that is the problem. Uninstall secondary IDE channel and refresh device manager, it should automatically reinstall Secondary channel with DMA enabled.

After you uninstall the IDE controller, you need to either manually add it as you did or just restart your laptop and Windows will automatically detect and reinstall it.
