I know when this notebook came out people were going crazy about it, but how does it compare to notebooks out today?

Just saying because I ordered one last week and am thinking of cancelling it, mostly because it still hasn't gotten past pre-production for me, it's heavy, not directx 10 compatible and expensive. I live in Ireland so my only options are really dell and alienware (Shops here have terribly low-spec laptops).

Any input would be apprieciated. I was thinking of going for the Asus G1S instead but can't really get that in Europe or the Alienware M5550.

    Thanks,
    Jonathan.

yes, it is, while expensive, it is still going to play games for a few years.

considering it's next form, the 1730, id get the 1710 before the 1730

It would be interesting to know if the video card could be upgraded in the future. Would the same card that fits in the ugly upcoming 1730 fit in the much better looking M1710? As far as I know, most upcoming games will still have a DirectX 9 option. But it would be nice to be able to get a DirectX 10 card.

Thanks guys, that ugly yoke the M1730, eugh. Really made my decision to buy it easier. Is that really the design? Dell wouldn't put such a beast on display after the disgust over the pictures would they?

Yeah an upgrade would be great, seeing as the M170 has an upgradeable graphics card right? (Well dell have to give it to you)
