Hi All,
I'm looking to purchase my first laptop as a desktop replacement. Generally, I'll play games once in awhile, but will do some photoshop related work, e-mail, surf the 'net, and download music.
That said, I'm really not a computer junkie like most of you and need your help.
Which is better - the M1710 or the 9400 with all components being equal? (i.e. Core 2 Duo T7200, 2 GB Ram @ 667, 120 GB Sata Drive, 256 MB 7900 GS)
For those that have either one, have you experienced any problems?
Price is somewhat a concern, but it looks like the XPS is currently a better deal on dell.ca....
Your thoughts and input are much appreciated.
Thanks.

You should fill out the FAQ's, I'm sure that you'll get more responses. In response to your question I think the i9400 is the better deal, same specs for less money. But on the other hand the 1710 quality build is better also it wins in the looks department to me its just not worth the extra cash. Also look for the deal coupons that are offered on this site or at dell, what ever decision you make good luck.

If you have the exact same RAM, CPU, HD and video card, the only differences you'll have are:
* Gigabit ethernet in the M1710 (nice for network backups, but otherwise?)
* The looks of the M1710 (the actual materials are the same, though!)
* 30% brighter display on the M1710
* XPS premium support (some say it's not a big deal)
So if you can get the M1710 for *less*, go for it. otherwise, you can usually save a bit by taking the 9400.
Both are great machines, you won't regret the choice!
