    Help, please. I'm confused !

If I get the M1730 with 8800M GTX SLI and Blu-ray, will I be able to view HD movies on my 1080i TV that is bigger than 30-inches? I assume I need the DVI-to-HDMI converter. Not sure what my options are for audio. My 7.1 receiver accepts Toslink (optical) or RCA.

What has me confused is this quote that I have seen in a few places:

"... the Dell XPS M1730 provides dual-link DVI-I video output with support for 30-inch displays"

    Thanks

No, the size does not matter. It is the resolution that matters. They are refering to computer monitors at 30 inches that run at higher resolutions than tv's do.

    Nizzy1115 is correct.

If your TV is 1080i or 720p then it probably has an actual native resolution of 1280x720, 1366x768, or another similar resolution. If you are mistaken and it's a 1080p TV, then the native resolution is 1920x1080. Your laptop will be able to do that resolution at no problem. My dad's Inspiron 1720 only has a Intel X3100 crappy onboard chip and it can run 1920x1080 through VGA to a 46" 1080p LCD.

    exactly...

its a shame that the m1730 doesnt have an normal hdmi port, but as long as you have an dvi-to-hdmi converter you are good to go. i have a 1525 w/ intel x3100 and output 1080p to my 52" hdtv no problems. so by comparison, if i can do it with a x3100, you most definitely could do it with the 8800M

Good to hear the a x3100 can do a 1080p without prob :)

Was thinking of either a Vostro 1500 or a Inspiron 1525 (due to its HDMI port), of coz M1530 is best but out of my budget :(

You won't have any problem hooking it up. I did this with my 32 inch Samsung HD TV.
