Looking for a bit of information, Ive had my M1730 for about 1 1/2-2 years its been preety good (had to replace the PSU) no real problems. I have taken it apart a few times to clean the fans. Just today I noticed something when I went to plug in an external monitor I only have 1 GPU core.

I only play wow casually and use it for design/work so I haven't noticed the FPS drop lol. I installed new nvidia drivers 3 weeks ago and at that time I had SLI so I must of lost one of my GPUs in that time span T.T

    I have re-installed GPU drivers.

Anyone got any ideas how to check if my 2nd gpu has just chucked it in and its time for a replacement?

BTW Ive got the stock 8700 GPUs.

Also If replacement of the GPU component is the only option whats the best way about getting replacement? call dell? ebay?

PS Warranty went out a few months back never renewed it

I'd say just call Dell. You'll probably have to pay for a replacement. Try and play some more games and see if there has been an FPS drop too. Also, you could probably download and run 3DMark06 to benchmark it: You'll definitely get a higher score if SLI is still working.

What about Device Manager? NVIDIA Control Panel? Do they list 2 GPU's or one?

I would just call Dell. Replacing a GPU is a hard process, the difficulty level varying from manufacturer to manufacturer. I'm pretty sure Dell solders their GPU's onto the motherboard, in which case, you will probably have to get the motherboard replaced.

don't worry about it till the 2nd goes out. Then try baking it in an oven. There's a guy on our owner's lounge who's done it 5 times now...

Also anyone know a way to check witch core is broken?

Recently my mates 8800GTX died (1 week ago) and he was distressed because he didn't have the money to replace it ATM. So I took the heat-sync off his card and the case bracket and cooked it in the oven (pre heated, 200c, 10mins)

Totally fixed his card. Before baking his card would only make bios with scrambled screen. After his card took off into World of Warcraft. I will be cooking my 8700X2 when the need arises for my SLi. =D
