The M1730 looks like a pretty nice gaming notebook choice, but before spending the money I want to know a few things about it.

Do you feel it's too uncomfortable/big to keep on your lap?

Do you think the WUXGA resolution on the screen is too much for a 17"?

Do you think it's too big to be considered a notebook?

Any ways to get a good discount on the system?

    Does it get really hot?

Post any experiences you have with the system, too.

    Thanks!

With the new 8800m GTX's coming out in a month, unless you absolutely can't wait, get one of those. I believe there are currently two slated Sagar models outfitted with the 88's.

My father owns a Precision M90, which is similar, so I'll answer some questions.

For one, yes, it is too big to use on your lap. The M90 and the M1730 are about the same size, and both are way to unwieldy to use like that.

My Dad's has the WUXGA and it is a fantastic screen. It looks great, and I love all the real estate (desktop space) it gives you.

    It's not a notebook or a laptop. It's a portable computer.

You can't really get a good deal on it. That's why I'd shy away from it - but if you have the money and want a mobile gaming machine, go for it. I'd say save your money, buy a $400 laptop in an electronics store (if you need a notebook) and build your own gaming desktop with a 24" screen and 512MB 8800GT with the other $1,600 or so.

My Dad's M90 has a Quadro 2500M with 256MB of memory, and it doesn't get hot when playing FEAR at maxed settings.

I don't think it's a good deal, so I'd back off from it. But if you have the money and you want a high-performance portabl gaming computer, go for it.
