Hi i hope someone could help me.

I have an m1730 with an x9000 processor, iv overclocked it in the bios to 3.0ghz but not any more than that as the fans sound like jet engines. Iv got got throttlestop but need to know what i need to do on it to overclock the processor to 3.4ghz or 3.6ghz. I want to do it this way because of the fans.

Next i am trying to overclock my gpu, its a 9800m gtx and i am using msi afterburner to do it, i can overclock the card to 560 core 1400 shader and 850 memory but if i go any more than that the gpu's crash under a bit of strain. I have seen that people can overclock the card to 620 core 1550 shader and 1000 memory but i cant get anywhere near it. When i had my 9800m GT card i ran it at 600/1500/1000 with no problems.

    Any idea's anyone?

Not all cards can be overclocked to a certain level, you may just have a lower binned chip.

As for the fan issue, there's not much you can do about it as your BIOS controls the fan RPM's, so if it gets too hot, it ramps up the fan. You could try i8kfangui, adunno if it specifically works on a M1730, but it works on most Santa Rosa platforms.

I understand but I mean when you overclock the cpu in bios the fans go full rpm when it's not hot. I want to overclock it in software so that the fans only go at full rpm when it's actually hot when I'm playing a game and not when I'm just browsing the web.

The gpu keeps crashing and on 3d mark vantage it's really struggling, also things like the water in it is shooting up in the air like mountains :-s I think this is a bad card so I'm going to get it replaced I think.

Try using MSi Afterburner... but that wont really change the fact that you've got a bad chip

i8kfangui should control your fan speeds, I've used it. Also you may need more voltage on the core or different drivers

I have just changed the cpu back to my old T9500 cpu and the laptop works fine with the 9800m gtx card even when its overclocked so what could be the problem when im using the x9000?

Are both the GPU and CPU replacements? I am assuming you have the latest drivers.
Are you having issues when trying to overclock the CPU? Are all the pins and everything looking good on the CPU? Have you checked the voltages and temperatures? It kind of sounds like you may have a bad processor.
I have known x9000's to perform differently between chips. Some people can overclock them without changing the voltage all the way to 3.8. My max is about 3.7 anything higher than that blue screens, so I may have to adjust voltage. But at 3.7 my temps are high 70's low 80's. That said, if the chip is performing badly, like drawing way too much power or overheating, that there could be an issue.
I have GTX 9800m SLI which stabily (is that a word) overclocks to 600/1600/900 which gives me about 14000 give or take in 3dmark06

If your GPU is running normally now that the other chip is back in the computer, it most likely points to the CPU again. No guarantee, but that seems to be where the problem is occuring.

Lastly, you are in high performance mode? I actually had issues for a little while because I forgot to switch it...
