I wanted to spend time on this unit before I gave it my review. In general this is a very impressive laptop both visually and electronically. Initially upon its arrival after pulling off the envelope cover all I could say was "WOW", and being educated as an Engineer I was shocked that I could ever get this excited about a laptop! The speed is more than impressive!!!!
The smooth shinny surfaces resemble the carbon fibre of the F-22 Raptor fighter jet, as well as state of the art lighting, to go with. It's like having the Las Vegas strip in a laptop with complete control of all the colors, intensity,as well as other lighting features like the backlit keyboard and strobe light feature for incoming e-mail. You become visually intoxicated just turning it on! I do not recomend you attend business meetings with the lights on as it may cause a distraction to those who may not appreciate it's state of the art appearance! The 17" high res.screen is perfect for this laptop. I was somewhat surprised by the added weight but not shocked. Heat sinks and the vents provided for cooling tell me it's built very well, and with the backpack that carrys everything but the kitchen sink, allows for hidden, easy transport. The touchpad alows for verticle and horizontal use of your current screen without having to go to the scroll arrows. This M1730 has many more features like this and I say KUDOS to dell and my flagship laptop! WELL WORTH THE WAIT! I use a cooling hub with 2 fans at home.

Makes me glad I ordered one! Only 23 more days (estimated delivery)

And it's a fair few years old now. Imagine what Dell could do if they actually bothered to update it

Thanks for the comments. My logic tells me if it isn't broken don't fix it. The lower panel gives easy access to the entire board via ports the technician can access to replace upgraded hardware at my place for free until April, 2014 when I decide its time to do so . I can only view this as a design and hardware advantage. I look forward to my next free hardware change!
