Hey guys,
I tried to install windows from the recovery disk and it gives me this error when it start formating: 0x4001100200000100A, I dunno if the SSD is even working..how do I know and do I need to change anything on the bios?
-
Probably a problem with the recovery disc. Is the disc one burned using Dell Datasafe? If so, that program is a piece of junk that fails to work properly most of the time. If it is one of the Dell-supplied OEM Windows discs, then that's another story entirely, it should work fine in that case.

in my bios I see FIXED HDD : M4-CT1284M4SSD2 128G -
Check the boot order, and the cable connection. OK bit of googling suggests it is an error with finding the recovery partition.

Thanks, I actually got it to work by trying another recovery options.. but I just opened my computer icon and I see 67.5GB free of 99.6GB!! how come, my SSD is 128gigs and the bios see it as that.. -
Just speaking with my tech mate. He says you should do a vanilla install as it optimises for SSD. Plus you won't have the recovery partition eating up space. Oh and check in the bios the drive is in AHCI mode. -
Not pretty sure what were the options.. I tried to boot again with the DVD but it changed the options.. but Basically there are 2 options ( one of them seems to depend on the recovery partition on your drive tho it doesn't mention that so if you use it, it will fail.. the other option is go straight to the factory settings but seems like it does use the DVD to recover everything.
Do you know how I can convert and get my gigs back lol man gigs on SSD are so expensive.. I want to use every gig of that SSD -
You will need to install drivers and stuff, but they should have given you a disk for that. -
thats the OEM right? I will try this weekend.. as an update the SSD is really cool I just updated mine to 009 but I have no clue how to use the benchmarking tools since I am a noob lmao
For the heat that was generated in that area.. I can tell that I don't feel any heat but I didn't use the laptop for a while.
As for the slight vibration, its gone now BUT most of the vibration in that area is caused by the fan so I am not sure if people know this.. when the fan kicks in as usual, I get the vibrations again.. -

I have updated all the drivers.. the touchpad is still getting warm alittle bit and I have the fan issue.. Dell said they will send someone to replace the FAN and Heat sink next week, I dunno if I should do that but I am really happy with my new SSD , really fast.. from cold boot to windows screen is 12-15 seconds.. amazinggggggggggggg -
And yea, the M4 is insanely fast. All SSD's are much better than HDDs, but as someone who owns a Vertex 2 (which I just restored speed on...) and an M4, and has an Intel 320 at work, there is a noticeable difference between the 3 in favor of the M4. But I'd take either (not the V2 due to Sandforce issue) any day. -
, thanks again guys
edit: if I place another SSD in a Caddy and use the DVD slot for it, would it function as SATA3 ? -
And no, the ODD is a SATA 2 most likely, the Intel chipset only has 2 SATA 3 ports, and they are usually reserved for HDDs. In the 702x, since it has 2 HDD bays, the ODD is definitely not SATA 3. In the l502x that you have, there is a chance, but the only way to be sure would be to find a SATA speed advisory tool, there are a few floating out there that will list all SATA ports, what device is on which. From there you can tell which are which speed.
