which one should i go for?

15.4” UltraSharpTM Widescreen WSXGA+ (1680x1050) Display with TrueLifeTM

    OR

15.4” Widescreen WXGA (1280x800) Display with TrueLifeTM

i compared between these 2 on the official dell website and it says that the brightness of the WSXGA+ is only 200 nits while the cheaper version (WXGA) is 220 nits. why is that??

Alright, the reason the cheaper one although a little brighter is cheaper is because it has a piss poor resolution. Not acceptable IMHO, but it depends on what your intentions are for this laptop. Since you're dabbeling in the XPS line I'll assume its for gaming and advise you stay away from the 1280x800.

I cannot reccomend any screen other than the 1400x900 LED screen. Its simply unbelievable when sat side-by-side to other laptops. I've shamed two of my friends by setting the brightness down a notch so it looks like a non-LED screen, then upping the brightness and laughing =D

If you're not willing to shell out the money for the best screen, I'd say get anything higher than that 1280x800 screen.
