I've had this laptop for over a year now, and one day when I turned it on, it doesnt respond. The big 'DELL' logo that comes up with options for bios and boot sequences doesnt appear. The laptop does have the quickset buttons flashing from left to right, and I do hear the blu-ray drive making that familiar sound, but nothing comes up on screen. Not even the screen's LED. The lights by the headphones and mic sockets indicate the laptop is on and the battery icon does come up but the hard drive load indicator does not.
On very rare occassions it does start running up again, I have managed to backup my files onto another computer and I also formatted the hard drive and restored factory settings from the Factory.WIM file in the D:\ drive. I already had the newest NVIDIA driver and the latest bios (A12).
My laptop runs unusually hot as well, 10 min stress with orthos on CPU and ram resulted in 81C, GPU at 73C and hard drive at 43C.
I have been able to play Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 at highest setting with no problems, and I have all Windows Updates.
This doesn't seem like a problem with the graphics. Also I have opened up the casing and cleaned out as much dust as possible even though there wasn't much. I checked to see that everything was fine and also reinserted the hard drive.
I'm planning to check the HDD for possible failure since this is the only other thing I can think of. Also tapping on the left side of the laptop (above the hard drive) crashes the whole thing and then refuses to boot up again.
I can't do anything on the laptop since it's brain dead at the moment. Just wondering if this is a familiar problem with this particular laptop.![]()

do you see the 'screen failure type' like the above thread?
do you still have warranty?
CPU at 81C is bad -
No it's not like that. The laptop's LCD doesn't even light up, it just stays black.
Not sure about warranty, I might have to check that.
Also will Dell still fix my laptop if it has obvious signs of being opened up? -
Try re-seating your RAM modules. Literally, the exact same thing happened to my old Studio 15, and it turned out to be a loose stick of memory.

Sorry for the late reply, but it seems to boot up properly everytime now, so thanks Mastershroom.
However it sometimes just freezes unexpectedly, the mouse icon wouldn't move and the HDD light would stay dead. I would have to force it to shut down in order to use it again. Also had a BSOD earlier today and it crashed while creating a memory dump. I mean, is that possible, crashing in BSOD?
