It's Mat****a UJ-875s. I beleive this is the Panasonic.
I don't know what's going on here. Maybe mine is defective. I just got my M1530 in today and am VERY unhappy with this DVD-R. It doesn't read any of my media (HP, Nexxtech, Sony). Memorex is sometimes readable, but it can take a very long time.
I don't know what to do about this. I was on the phone with Dell for an hour and am getting someone out here to do a replacement, but I have my doubts and think this will not fix it. Does anyone else have any similar problems?
I really want to get this problem fixed. I want to get a clean install of the OS on here, so as of right now, I can't really do anything on here because it's just going to be wiped anyways.
I did burn a clean copy of vista on a CD, but much to my surprise, it didn't work. It loads so slow that it won't even boot from the CD because it times out, but it is loaded in Windows by that time.

More problems? And some people around here still believe these problems in the M1530 is just "exaggerated"
.
-
that is a junk burner imo.. try to get the samsung toshiba instead or hate to say a samsung 028h only costs 40-50$ problem solved.. that is a killer notebook drive
-
I honestly can't justify paying for one. I just paid good money on a laptop. They are going to be bringing me out one (same model).
Do you know if Dell stocks those? I've already threatened to send it back if this problem is not resolved within a few days -
LED screen is amazing I might add -
yes but the dell version is the model TS-L632 which is exactly the same drive except will not write cd text or do bitsetting. once or if you can get that one from dell you are welcome to pm me and i can tell you how to cross flash it to a actual samsung 028h instead..once the drive is crossflashed it will become a real samsung 028h and do cd text and bitsetting and then you can also use the actual samsung firmware updates from the samsung web site...
those matsu drives are junk.. they have issues found all over the place and have no firmware updates found and have issues with all kinda of media. i have had 2 of them and trust me after testing them they are almost the worst drive out there.. the phillips i have just replaced now is even worse performance wise.. right now samsung and optiarc are the best out there.. -
...Call Dell, and see if they have the one you are inquiring about..or request a different drive
The DVD drive is very important..to be working the way it should be as it is used so much....argh.
What you need to do is focus on *you and your lappy* not what other's who don't even have a 1530: ordered, or even received yet have to say
People make comments against or for the 1530, that is their personal opinion...You will form your own opinion once you get to know your 1530.
The DVD drive can be fixed ~ or you can get another replacement...and if you like everything else about the lappy...that's better than having one that doesnt work at all

. I'm amazed at your positivity, I wish I was the same.
-
It might just be your drive. I have a Mat****a and it's great. Quiet and fast - what more could I ask for?
-
-
Yes I try to stay positive..that's how I roll...Better to be positive than not to have a good outlook on things...But, see me when I'm torked..not good.
(plus I would hope that with/having good energy, well it tends to rub off on others)
I would hope that once you receive your lappy, you will find some excitement in it alsoI'm sure you will!

No, I'm actually extremely excited (especially when I read your posts, they make me have some hope). I poured $1250 into this (I'm only 18 mind you, it's quite some money for me being a new college student dealing with $40,000 tuition every year) so I just really want my money's worth (then again, who doesn't).
The one thing that's mainly worrying me is the possibility of returning it to fix any issues while school is rolling. It's gonna suck to be away such an awesome computer and even worse to walk into class with nothing.
I even got this "happy-high" when I heard a couple uni friends were getting some bad HP models. The XPS makes me feels luxurious already!
-
...I try..
Yes, I understand your concern...as you haven't received it yet, you put money into it, and you see posts etc..and that concerns you.
No worries, you will get your moneys worth..and the thing is, if there are any possible prob's that may arise with your lappy..that is what you have your warranty for...But, let's look at it like this: your lappy will arrive in good working order
And, I understand the challenge of a return while you are at school! But try not to think of that now!
See, in the end there is always a solution to problems/things that arise

So it's not only me haha. I was unlucky enough to get this Mats h i t a UJ-875S and it seems like it can read everything except for my burned CD's. Really weird. DVD's work, my burned DVD's work, and store bought audio CD's work too... Luckily I don't really use discs often but I should get mine fixed too. The read time is also rather long for me.
-
Someone said it was quiet , it made me laugh. These slot load drives are way too noisy for my liking
-
Can I PM you to get that tutorial too? (question is how do I PM you?)
Thanx -
Cin' - Master of all things smiley.
-
Besides the loud noise, my Ma****a's helped me burn & read several tens of DVDs and CDs for me~ That includes about 4 Vista reinstalls (replaced a damaged hard drive T-T).
-
mine was pretty crappy also. got dell to replace it with a sony/optiarc which runs pretty nicely for me
-
My warranty expired, then my Mat-crap drive went south. What you've got to go through to replace it is pretty intricate if you do it yourself, so I'm using an external DVD burner while I'm between this disappointing xps model ( motherboard / gpu failure as well) and a future purchase which probably won't be a Dell.
-
how did you get dell to replace it? mine works i guess but is horribly slow transferring data to my hard disk (7200rpm) from a dvd.
Matshita UJ-875s - HORRIBLE!
