Hi, As I said before, my M1330 is going to be 2 years old. Still only 2 problems: 1. faultu memory card (remplaced by dell). And now a faulty LCD, (I bought one waiting the travel to my home). Still no CPZU, GPU, motherboard problems. Anyway I made the CopperMOD.
Who have the lucky to not need to be changing parts every time, etc...???
-
Aww, your not going to get banned for this thread!
I'm sure you will soon see others posting with information on their 1330's...(I had the 1530 w/faulty, faulty GPU's)..returned/replaced w/a 16xx.
Cin.... -
My brother's GPU got replaced. I then did the copper mod for him, it's been running nice and cool ever since.
-
I had a non-nVidia M1330 (just X3100 graphics) that ran like a top until it was stolen. Bastiches.
-
Had my M1330 over two years now.
Like many....had the MB replaced with faulty GPU.
I have replaced my slot DVD drive for $49 as if used alot will fail for sure.
Have upgraded the Hard Drive from 200GB 7200rpm to 500GB 7200rpm.
I clean the fan regularly; use a quality laptop cooler so the keyboard is no more than warm at the hottest and all has been well.
Use an external Blu-Ray drive that is amazingly faster than the poor quality slot DVD drives for laptops. (Here smaller is not so good.)
I also use a voltage-switching UPS. Unconditioned power counts for many laptop deaths.
Quality power into your laptop means a quality-longer life.
Good Luck -
Still running my one from new had it well over 3 years now see sig below.
And still happy with it ram, wireless cards, black keyboard and OS all graded along with a cooling mod. -
NICE. As I said, mine will have now 2 years in August. If the PC last 5 years in total I will be happy with that. Really that seems that the M1330 Issues is a bad GPU and crap cooling, with copper mod you see the temps drop a lot! that is a example of crappy blue pad cooling. For GPU Dell only need to replace with newer non-faulty GPU. IF DELL MAKE THAT M1330 WILL BE HARD SOLID LAPTOP. Instead they take out the PC from the market.
BlackRussian where you get the black keyboard? and facial recognition??? -
-
thankyou, I saw it on ebay, looks nice, maybe bought one
.
Anyone knows about the last fingerprint sensor version??? Or Dell have it? Because I dont have the program since I installed Windows 7. This method is better than password.
Anyone use the keyboard plastic protector? seems cheap. -
I think that it was at good price because it is a program but $400 for a program??? Is a lot of money for face recognition or is ok???
-
mine was excellent for nearly 2 years, nothing at all went wrong.
then a month or so ago it started doing this funky1 funky2 rly? along with other funky patterns then shuts down, it works sometimes for a while then starts again.
only have about 1 month left of the gpu warranty, in talks with xps email support today. -
You have 1 month left on GPU warranty? you pay one extension year of warranty?

Have had my m1330 w/Intel graphics for 2 years as well. No problems what so ever.
Put Win 7 x64 on it and it's been fine. Only annoyance is that sometimes it wobbles a bit. But I love the weight & power (I have the T9300) compared to most netbooks and laptops this size.
Wish the XPS 13 didn't weigh so much or I would have jumped on it. -
although the whole laptop is covered by the sales of goods act in the UK anyway as a £1000 laptop should last longer than 2 years, but that would have to go through the small claims court so would take ages to get a refund.
XPS Email support are great, a tech is being sent to change my motherboard next week. I wonder how long this one will last, now i'm using the laptop more... -
Thankyou! So I have another year of GPU. really it is 3 months
-
First my GPU broke then a few months later almost everything inside broke
but was always happy with the service. Since then I clean the fan and grill when I feel he's starting to run hot and since then no problems.
It does have an efficient cooling system you just have to make sure it can do it's work, it clogs up with dust real fast. -
Well like I said in my other thread I was problems with LCD, finally I change back to dell GPU driver and all went to normal. Im thinking to make a mod inn the GPU with a fan but I think that it can get dust so im unsure.

My M1330 is almost two years old. The only problem I had was a spacebar problem on the keyboard. Best Buy replaced the keyboard. The machine has been fine. It has Intel graphics and therefore no heat issues. I've upgraded it to Windows 7 and no problems there.
The m1330 is my backup laptop. I have a 17 inch MacBook Pro that is my main laptop. I also used the m1330 around the house (because it is so light compared to the Mac) but I recently got an iPad so it hasn't gotten much use in April. Still, it's a nice machine to grab when someone in the house needs a machine for some random purpose. -
2 yrs.. 1 replacment GPU, 1 replacment DVD rom, 9 cell went dead... other than that no issue
-
Ive had my M1330 since November 2008 and no problems at all except I need a new battery.
-
The only problem that occured was the standard battery conked out after a year, which was lame, worst lifetime I have had from a laptop battery ever.
I'd consider replacing it with another Dell, but not sure to be honest. On the bext unit, I'm looking for either lower weight or bigger screen for the same weight. Things should have progressed by now. -
Had my m1330 for two and a half years now. Had the vertical lines of death about a year ago, and the motherboard replaced. Did the copper mod on the replacement, it's been running fine since then, but too early to know whether the copper mod has extended the life of the replacement. Aside from that issue, I think it's an excellent machine and Linux runs well on it. The 9cell battery is still giving me over 4 hours of life - if it lives another year I'll be pleased.
-
I've had mine since 8/08 and only issue I have is I need to replace the battery now. Other than that I've done no mods, made no upgrades and it has been a great machine.
Did the Windows 7 32bit upgrade with no problem and it has been running great ever since... -
Of my 8 laptops, 2 of them are Crestline M1330's. The one in my sig is my baby, you need facial recognition AND a fingerprint to successfully logon. My wife insists I'm hiding something on it, she can access all my machines except my M1330's. Still going strong, the both of them.

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
The heat isn't the only factor in the Nvidia failure, it's the rapid change in temperatures that causes the faulty bump material to expand and contract thus causing the solder joints to fail, and disconnecting the GPU from the motherboard. You can copper mod all you want, but it's still going to go above 60C which is the temperature that starts the solder joints to fail.
-
I've had mine since it first came out in August 2007. NVIDIA card failed in September 2009, had the motherboard replaced, did copper mod, been working fine since. I'm halfway expecting another video card fail around Sep 2011 tho...
Upgraded processor from T7300 to T9300, hard drive to 320GB 7200rpm, black keyboard, memory to 4GB, Win7 64-bit, love it! -
My wife is still using mine from 2008 with no problems.

I received my M1330 as the first batch to arrive into New Zealand about August 2007. It does have the nVidia graphics card.
I have had the motherboard replaced twice due to the graphics card failing. The last replacement was 2 years ago.
I have replaced the battery (9 cell) as it stopped charging last year.
The DVD drive failed a year ago and can't be bothered replacing it.
I'll be updating it sometime this year with a new machine. I'm not sure what I'll replace it with as I do like the 13" size. -
I got my m1330 in August 2007 when it was new as well. I had the mobo replaced twice, the LED replaced twice, and the keyboard replaced once all in the first 15 months of ownership. But since then, I have enjoyed over 2 years problem free.
Maybe I get banned for this thread but, who have the lucky to have a good M1330?
