    Hi all,
I got the usual 30 day trial and thought I would just uninstall it after this time, I aint payin £45 to renew!
Anyhoo the expiry date was 25/7/08 and it's still downloding/updating as normal, no expiry warnings no nothing, just business as usual.

Norton on my previous lappy kept bugging me for cash until i got rid, so what gives?
    Anybody else had this?

    Cheers
    MM.

are you sure it is updating Virus DAT updates?
The McAfee will still update the security centre and other things after expiration, just not DAT files...
McAfee Last Virus DAT creation just happend to be on the 25th, so can't tell yet if it has stopped updating for you.

    Hi Tony,
The latest DAT file was available on the 25th but my machine grabbed it on the 26th, a day after expiry.

Yeah, it still randomly grabs things after expiration that it considers to be significant such as a modest revision, bugfix, etc of the application itself or changes in how an existing virus is handled occasionally.

I've had this before, but on my new laptop, I'd just uninstall the Mcafee straight out. Vista already has a slew of great defensive measures on its own unless you visit a lot of.. you know.. those sites...

Or you can have fun and use Clamwin to help you locate viruses and manually remove them yourself for the fun of it. :)

I don't normally run AV software, I once paid £40 for a copy of Norton (first PC ever) and promptly got a worm that Norton couldn't remove!
So I went to Panda activescan, you know one of those active x online scanners and it removed it straight away.
So That's what I use usually, but I quite like some of the features of McAfee, like the file shredder so I might keep it anyway.

Never heard of Panda activescan, but I'm always cautious of those active x online scanners... typically they are loaded with spyware. I've had a bad experience with one before and my desktop was never the same since then. Very tedius to clean up and rid of the infection. Blaster worms galore.

Eraser - http://www.heidi.ie/node/6 - is a free, open source file eraser. Works as well as anything else I've tried.

    Hi Tony,
Yes I got this update today too, so how come when my subscription expired on the 25th?
Do you reckon they give you a weeks grace to renew or something?

    Cheers
    MM.
