Has anyone got Media Direct 4.0 running on their XPS? Has anyone even attempted this? I'd like to get 4.0 so I can do away with the 3.5 partition, but so far, no luck. BTW, this would be with Vista Ultimate as the OS.

Did you get MD 4.0 with a new machine - can't find a download link anywhere!

MD 4 is only available on the Studio line. It will work on an XPS. There is not much difference that I saw other than it plays newer Blu-Ray movies that MD 3.5 doesn't play.
There is a download link out there, you just need to ask the right person in a PM. -
The big difference between 3.5 and 4.0 is that 4.0 does not require a separate partition like 3.5 does. I have a copy of 4.0 from my Studio, but I also want to load it on an XPS and haven't been successful in getting it to work.

Is Media Direct the bloatware most people remove when getting their Dells?

I thought this was the thread that I started a few days ago on this subject for a second. I wanted to get MD4 for my XPS but when I found out it just runs as a normal app I am assuming there is better software out there. I actually don't care about the 1.1 and 2.0 profiles anyway. I won't be messing with that stuff on the laptop. I can do that on my PS3 at home. Seems like Dell should provide this for the XPS though if you bought it with a Blu-ray player like I did. They sell you a Blu-ray player and give you software that can't even play everything especially when they have existing software that does.

Im using MD4 on my xps, it works pretty fine, i have no issue as far MD4 on my xps
pressing MD button works fine as usual it loads windows first then it will launch the MD. -
Edit: got it -
I just need MD to ensure that I don't screw up my laptop if I accidentally press the MD button.
Can someone please post the link to the latest version. The one I have is 3.5 -
What's the point of MD?
-
I think most people use it to play movies.
-
And some like me install it to prevent accidental deletion of the MBR.
MD is a verrryyy poorly written software. I once bricked my notebook because I had deleted the MD partition and accidentally pushed the MD button instead of the power button. -
For those who would rather have the MD button launch another program, I've seen instructions for the registry edits that will do it. I believe it requires Quickset either way. -
What other programs play Blu-ray profile 1.1 and 2.0?

I've had so much problem with MD 3.5 on Vista 64, that I'd appreciate it if someone with a download link would email me and let me know where to get it.
Thanks -
The fact MD4 loads into Windows first seems to defeat the object completely to me lol. Not that I ever bother to use it.

Hi everyone, could someone please help me out to find the MD4 iso for my m1530?
Thanks! -
anybody care to help me out please?
-
Can anyone help me out with a link to the ISO for MD4? I've been searching for a few days with no luck. Like other people I'm simply looking for a way to prevent a corruption/overwrite of the MBR. Having a windows installer would also make life much easier for multiboot configurations.

Hello!
I'd like to have that link too, thanks!
Oh, and one more question: I don't wanna reinstall my whole system. Could I just install MD4, and then get rid of the MD3.5 partition (with gParted). What happens if I press the MD button then?
Or maybe I should "deinstall" MD3.5 first, get rid of the partition then, and THEN install MD4?
I am scared sh*tless about that button!
Cheers
