Hi there. I haven't visited the forums in a while, so I don't know about the current situation of M1530.

Is it possible to install the MD version available in the Studio (4, I believe) in M1530? It certainly looks better.

Also, are there any new fixes for anything in M1530? I remember downloading a new optiarc dvd driver and it fixed some sound issues. Any new drivers (maybe from other dell sections) could help improve my M1530 performance?

    Thanks

Check in the above link. There are quiet a few new driver releases and updates for the M1530. Most of them are for the 64-bit, but there are updates for the 32-bit too. Take what you want.

Yes. MediaDirect 4 (available for the Studio line) will install on the 1530 without a problem. I have tested MD4 with the 1730 and there is no issue. This is a standalone application - there is no MediaDirect partition.

What do you mean? MD4 won't work as a "boot program" in M1530? Where can I get it? (and Install instructions?)

But if its not a boot sysytem, then why bother having it?

The sole purpose of media direct as I see it, is a quick way to access vids and songs when the computer is off, but if you have to boot into vista then why not just use media player or whatever?

    ^^ Agreed o_O

On another note, I never check for new drivers apart from video drivers. Thanks for reminding me. :)

One possible use is that if your notebook has a blu-ray drive, it will play it. You would otherwise have to shell out extra money for blu-ray decoding software.

So , Batboy, you say that I could get Media Direct 4 on the XPS1730 and could run dvd`s or so without booting the laptop?
    Where do I sign up ? :D
