I am about to purchase a 4gb memory upgrade for my XPS M1530. I noticed that the 800 MHz were almost the identical price as the 667 MHz modules. I know that currently the 1530 will not run at 800 MHz but can I put 800 MHz modules in? If they are the same price I would like to be a bit future proof just in case I upgrade the laptop next year to a newer model that does support them. I would then just put the original 2 gb back in my current one and sell it on ebay.

You can put 800mhz. However, don't except any outstanding increase of performance.

In fact, if the laptop cannot run the 800 MHz memory, then expect NO increase of performance. Still, if the price is similar, get the 800 MHz memory.

If there's no huge price difference then when the 800MHz memory downclocks to 667MHz it will decrease the ram latency and improve performance.. slightly :)
