Ok its here. I ordered it 1/4 and it was delivered 1/11. That is pretty good turn around time any way you look at it.
The color is really nice. Its a deep blue-ish / purple-ish tone. It looks one way sitting there and another when light is shining on it. Its the same tone and texture as the black parts of the laptop.
Here is a picture of it in a well light area:

Here is a picture in the same light from a different angle:

Here is a picture from when i just pulled it out of the packaging at night.
![]()
So the color is either the first picture or second, depending on how you look at it. But I would say its more the second picture.
I read some where on here about the bottom panel not being screwed on right. Same here. Check this quality control out:

Here is what WSXGA+ resolution looks like on a familiar webpage:
![]()
The color and lighting of the screen is very nice and uniform. The above picture is to show the resolution, the quality of the picture I took just isn't that good.
I made some comments on another thread but I will post them here.
1.) My trackpad buttons (left click and right click) pitch back and forth a degree or two, is this normal?
2.) My screen is the SEC3350. I guess it would be "grainy". I would call it sparkly, or some prismatic effect. Most of my LCDs I use display this characteristic to one degree or another. Still might call and try to get an LG screen. Does Dell replace screens within the 21 day period or will they only send a new computer?
3.) My left hinge was squeaking every time I moved the lid back and forth. I pushed down on the left speaker cover, nothing popped or snapped, but the squeak went away. Think it was some adhesive not set right?
4.) The ram / cpu cover was not attached correctly. One tab was sticking out. Its the first thing I saw taking it out of the plastic and I am like WTF? It wasn't even close. I unscrewed it and put it on correctly, but still..
5.) The shift / enter / arrow key placement is mildly annoying. I keep hitting the up arrow when i try to hit the right shift key. I am sure I will adjust to it though.
6.) The f keys go up and down as you go from f1 to f12. f1 high to f4 low to f8 high to f12 low to delete high. I hope that makes sense. You can see it if you look for it.
7.) I really have to press the power button to turn the laptop on. Is this normal?
Overall I really like it. I loaded up WOW and its really nice running it at 1680 by 1050 @60 frames a second. I am moving up from a desktop with an Athlon XP 3400, BFG Geforce 6800gt OC and 2 gigs of ddr 400 ram with a 17" Viewsonic lcd at 1280 by 1024. I must say, it definitely feels like an upgrade.
So I am torn. The hinge stopped squeaking, but it might come back. I have the grainy screen, but it looks nice to me. The trackpad buttons I think are an issue. The waveyness of the f keys is mildly annoying. If I send it back, do they send me a brand new computer or do I get a refurb?
Hope the pictures help for anyone thinking of getting this color screen.

I love the colour on it
-
I think red is better.
-
I like it better than red. It looks great.
-
That's a very nice looking laptop. I think those pictures look even better than the advertised ones. Nice shots.

sko, I'd be interested to know how it does with fingerprints. Even the red shows fingerprints but it is of course not as bad as black. Since the blue is somewhat dark, does it perhaps show fingerprints as the black does?
-
I hate to be off topic but your house looks identical to mine, cabinet, granite, molding, tile etc... You must have a Shea home. Mines in CO.
Nice lappy too, I like the color but I am colorblind! -
Really cool pics sko105 ! Midnight blue rocks!!!

That is one good looking laptop!!!About your questions, if you like your screen, just keep it. You may get the bad one if Dell wants to send you a replacement. I have to push a little bit on power button because it is just a plastic that pushes down to power button on the motherboard. I would say it normal according from what you post.
Let me put it this way. If you like your laptop in overall and no major issue on it, I would keep it because you never knoe what you will get. Do you see what I am trying to say? You can ask Dell to send a new screen, but you can ask for a new replacement without breaking sweat if you want to. It is up to you. I think, my one pass 21 days and the deal I got is pretty sweet. I am not even bother trying to reorder it anyway. I am happy with what I got. -
You should not have to live with 3-4 (screen, back cover, the noise, and maybe the f keys) imperfections. I would return it asap and get a new one. The back cover was not placed right on mine too, I got a SEC screen exchanged it for a different one.
-
Nice color, I like it too... Now I don't have too many excuses left, not to buy one...

1.) My trackpad buttons (left click and right click) pitch back and forth a degree or two, is this normal?
A: Yes , Mine is the same. 2.)
My screen is the SEC3350. I guess it would be "grainy". I would call it sparkly, or some prismatic effect. Most of my LCDs I use display this characteristic to one degree or another. Still might call and try to get an LG screen. Does Dell replace screens within the 21 day period or will they only send a new computer?
A:Yes they do. call and tell them you want the
part # XK309 15.4"
if for any reason the new one is not better than the old one. you can keep the old one. you don't loose any thing. trust me the diffrence is huge and worth the pain.
3.) My left hinge was squeaking every time I moved the lid back and forth. I pushed down on the left speaker cover, nothing popped or snapped, but the squeak went away. Think it was some adhesive not set right?
A: You can tell from the photo of the bootom of your laptop how careful they are putting this things togeather. so If it's fine now don't worry about it.
4.) The ram / cpu cover was not attached correctly. One tab was sticking out. Its the first thing I saw taking it out of the plastic and I am like WTF? It wasn't even close. I unscrewed it and put it on correctly, but still..
A: mine came the same. I pushed it in. and everthing is fine.
A: man yours like a copy of mine.. mine is nottoo bad . I have to look at it from the side to see it. Doesn't bother me..
7.) I really have to press the power button to turn the laptop on. Is this normal?
A: the power button is not touch like the other so YES.

A: I don't think you will get a refurb. but no one can promise.
Hope the pictures help for anyone thinking of getting this color screen.[/QUOTE]
A: Butter now than later if there are toomany problems with it. maybe you should send it back and get another one. If I were you. i will returne it and buy another one. this way you know you don't get refurb and you might get lucky with the screen. but the real reason is that you get the 21 days started again so you still can return/exchange the new one if again you don't like it.
I hope this help. -
ya i want to know too if it leaves finger prints
-
Yes! my name is in your last picture! Here's to cfps (chronic forum poster syndrome)
-
I think I'd rather have a blue that actually looks like a deep blue when you're not shining a light on it, rather than looking black.
-
That's one hot laptop. All the trackbuttons I've seen pitch back and forth a degree or two. nothing that alarmed me. I'd return it and get some piece of mind though.
-
Any pictures of the entire inside screen + keyboard?
-
do the mouse buttons make a click noise? or are they smooth and quiet when pressed like the new hp pavilion laptops?
-
Dells site makes it look bad, if Id had known it would look that good, i would have probably picked that color for my m1330. How did you get it so cheap?
-
I think red looks better than blue.......the only blue notebook I ever found attractive is the one from Sony VAIO CR.....my friend has one and it looks fantastic
-

Wow,I really like the Blue,in my opinion black would have looked much better if it was gloss finish like the white
-
in addition to being soft.
-
anyone have pictueres of the red ,black and white in the same quality so i can compare. I am pulled towards blue with these pictures though.
-
Hi guys i really want to order my XPS laptop but i dont no what colour to get, crimson red or midnight blue any suggestions plz!!!
-
Get a screen replacement. Don't settle for the SEC. It's crap.
-
I would love to see a real pic of the red one as well. I am also torn between blue and red. I just joined this site so I could read the reviews on the 1530
So anyone with a red lappy, please post pics of it! Thanks! -
Well all system exchange cases should be handled through tech support, care cant issue an exchange for a tech related issue. Also a system thats currently shipping should be sent as new. This information is true if the agent handling the case sets the dispatch up correctly.

I just received my XPS m1530 black... I like blue colors, but I really think this black is pretty s3xy hot. I think I notice the "grainy" screen that people are speaking about, but it's not a defect that I can't live without. It only shows up in white areas if I really focus on the screen for the quality. HDMI ... no problem, hahaha... looks REALLY great externally. VERY QUIET while I was watching DIVX movie. Hinge was firm, I did also notice the CPU cover was not snapped in right when shipped to me. Nothing was broken, so I just unscrewed the cover and snapped it back in place.
One thing I will have to adjust to is the touchpad and buttons. It's placed a little bit off where I am used to... my compaq touchpad buttons are more familiar to me... I think it's just an adjustment I have to make for it.
It's light weight... pretty... chick magnet ... ok, just kidding about the chick magnet but you never know! -
-
Love the color!!! so glad you posted it bcuz i got one just like it on the way
. cant open the first pic for some reason though
. neway i will post back when mine is here. for the time being your laptops my background.
-
Mmmm, mine is between the second and the third pictures, never as the first. I guess the first must be the result of some flash or the camera. I can't get my Xps look that blue, no way, no to my eyes.
Is it normal or is just some error in the fabbric, as that they used too much black?
Also, on mine the two bands, upper and lower, are a bit lighter than the big rectangle in the center..., which is pretty dark. Only putting it in a very well enlighten ambient I can get a colour as the second pictures...
I expected and wanted it as the one on the first picture, as in Dell site is even much much lighter... -
@ osoulman I have the same color laptop coming too and the pic is my desktop wallpaper as well. I just thought it was funny I can not wait for it to get here. lol
