I desperately want to get rid of my XPS M1330.
Is there anything I can do?

I regret buying it so much but they are only worth half the price now that I paid for it.

Is there any way to get a full refund from Dell?

Is there something specifically wrong with it? If so, would a replacement alleviate your concerns?

Otherwise, unless it is not fit for purpose (and thus covered by Australian consumer sales law), you're stuck with it.

No, nothing wrong with it really.
It has restarted itself twice tonight but I waiting to see if it does it again.
Even so, I'd hate to have it simply replaced!
When I bought it, I took all the best options but it really is a lacklustre computer! It's so incredibly average it's ... well ... incredible!

    Lacklustre? An unusual description, certainly.

If you took all the best options (LED, SSD, etc) and it's sluggish or otherwise glitchy, then perhaps you should ask for a new one. My 1330 is fairly high-spec, and it's blazing fast after doing a clean install of Vista (as you should have when you received the laptop).

WOW - If it's "defective" maybe you can argue to get a replacement since it's less than 2 mths ago and then you can sell the replacement as it would be Unused...it does look like you spent $ to get the best - sorry to hear you are having trouble with it.

Let us know what problem you are having with it, then maybe we can help you?
A clean vista install is something to start with as tabten5 mentioned.

It's definitely not an average laptop. It's one of the best in its class for size/performance ratio and is definitely visually striking. If your disappointment with it is based on its look, I'd recommend skinning it with a sticker. 3acp.com makes stickers designed for the 1330 specifically. As for it being sluggish, I would try doing a clean install or getting it replaced as it should definitely not be sluggish. If you must really get rid of it, I guess the really illegal way would be to buy insurance for it and drop it out your window. But don't do that.

Yeah, looks like I'm stuck with it.
    Thanks for your suggestions.
I'm not too worried about the speed, though I did sit it next to a Mac and it was way way way slower than it. I suppose I did in fact expect a lot faster.
The looks are OK, neither good nor bad.

Maybe I just expected more, or maybe I'm just not using it as it should be. Could just be my ignorance, but I see very little difference between it and my almost 10 year old XP Dell. What is the difference exactly? It certainly doesn't seem any faster, and is there something amazing i can do with it?
Internet is the same, I can type a letter on both. I think you get a couple of extra games on this new one but is that it for thousands of dollars?
Probably it's just my ignorance but what are you guys doing with it exactly that makes you think it's amazing?

Why the hell did you pay a couple thousand for a laptop if all you were going to do was check your internet and type a letter?

Yes, this will be light years faster than your 10 year old xp but you actually have to use it for something that would require speed! Photoshop, new games, video editing, ect...

Lol, you should go buy an Iphone and then complain because it doesn't make your phone calls sound any better than your 10 year old nokia!

(j/K, dont really go buy that overpriced POS)

Are you looking for a way to use your laptop? If you just want to make sure it is faster than your old one, download some PCmark type of benchmarking software for both and see what happens! Or go buy a newish game, just dont expect to play crysis well from a 13" laptop...

I would hazard a guess that DrPangloss is middle-aged, and has no interest/knowledge in/of "gaming" in that sense. They may well be referring to solitaire, minesweeper, pinball and so on when they refer to "games".

DrPangloss, do you know enough about computers to do a clean install of Windows Vista? There are easy-to-follow, precise instructions here if you feel you can take it on. It's surprising just how much rubbish is pre-installed on Dell systems as shipped, and it's worth spending a couple of hours stripping it down again.

Otherwise, it depends on what you want to do with it. Browsing the internet and writing a letter (in MS Word? 2007?) are the most basic of computer-related tasks, although even then you should still find that your 1330 is zippier than your old PC if configured correctly. It is not, of course, for us to determine how you use your computer, and if you don't use it any more than that, then it does indeed beg the question why you bought such a high-spec machine. A $500 bargain entry-model would have managed those basic tasks just as well.

Perhaps we're misunderstanding you - the more specific you are, the more help you're going to get.

even if all you run is really simple tasks. your 1330 will at least allow you to run all those applications at the same time :) The software you use is also more demanding and generally far better than the one you were using 10 years ago. Your screen definitely looks better and you could plug this laptop to a hdtv or large monitor and get video and sound without any effort (through your hmdi port). As for speed: the 1330 is way faster than any 13inch mac on the market. I will be the first to admit that OSX is a more efficient OS than vista but, in terms of raw speed, your laptop is by far superior to a macbook. If your laptop is running slower, i'd definitely try to reinstal windows. If you're just unhappy with the way it looks, mod it. As I mentioned before, stickers can radically change the way your laptop looks. 3acp.com does 1330-specific stickers but I'm sure you can also find them elsewhere. If you have the funds, try out colorware.com for a custom paint job.

@ emclo the m1330 with 8400gs card runs crysis pretty well ;), this card is low end but dont underestimate its power.

Just try to play new games, stuff like photoshop, autocad, high end programs and you will see the difference.

@ Funk: the 3acp stickers are really easy to remove and they don't leave any residue. I've used one for 3 months now and it still looks new.
