To get the HDMI driver you have to install the desktop version CATALYST. The desktop package correctly identifies the Mobile version and installs it, whereas there is no HDMI driver included in the Mobile version (up-to now). The desktop package just won't install the other main driver components on Mobile cards.

Not true, the update program will not update everything even if the Dell drivers have been previously installed. You might be confused because it will detected previously installed devices and software packages and list them as being installed, but no update will actually occur except for the ones explicitly supported and included in the package. For example:
mobility installer includes ONLY catalyst installation management, display driver and catalyst control panel, nothing more - there is no HDMI/WDM driver included but it might list one as being previously installed, if it detects it.
desktop installer includes more than the mobility installer, but only the catalyst installation management, HDMI/WDM driver, communication opt-in, and Lord of the Rings spam-ware will install and be updated.
Don't get confused after you install the Dell software package because it does include a few things that the Mobility/desktop package will never install on a Mobile system, and after they've been installed new items will get included on the list of software packages during installation (but no update occurs, remember because the package included isn't truly compatible with Mobility vendors stuff). You can confirm this by hovering your mouse over the items to be installed, paying special attention to the status messages and the icon as to whether it's a check box or just a check and you can tell for sure by checking the clicking the item and reading the status message and checking old/new version if any, only the check box ones get installed, and it items in the list aren't always included or supported by the software package you're executing. -
Install the Dell drivers first to install the stuff that the ATI site's drivers will not install, HDMI, etc. THEN update using the ATI sites drivers to update the display driver, etc. -
So what package is best to install? The modded desktop drivers along with the avivo package?
For some reason I thought I remembered that my 1640 with the 4670 having the HDMI drivers installed using the Mobility Cat's off the ATI site. The only thing that installed for me as you said was the manager, display driver, and control center - no HDMI or avivo stuff for my 5730. Though you install the avivo stuff with a separate download anyhow.
Now even I'm confused lol. -
