    Hi guys:
I have a Mtron 7000 installed in my XPS M1330, running Vista 64 ultimate. The Mtron cuts down my start-up time by about 30%, and so I was quite pleased with that.

I started noticing, however, that the bluetooth mouse takes about 39~45 seconds to wake up after the PC wakes from sleep, and nearly nothing responds until at least 25 seconds after the wake, even though I can see the desktop and mouse the mouse with the touchpad. Thinking that perhaps I mishandled the bluetooth driver installation and or the power settings, I had installed and reinstalled vista 64 for 4 times over the past week, reverting to previous restoration points even more times.

Unable to pinpoint the exact cause of problem but remembering that I didn't have this problem on my Samsung HM160HI, I reinserted that hard drive and confirmed that it only takes 9~11 seconds for the bluetooth mouse to wake up and just about everything responds 5 seconds after the PC is out sleep.

Thinking perhaps I messed up on the installation, drivers, and settings; I copied the disk image from the Samsung to Mtron. Now I am experiencing the same problem as I did before on the Mtron, though it has identical installation as the Samsung.

I can only conclude that the Mtron is somehow very slow to wake up from sleep, taking roughly 25 seconds longer than a conventional hard drive.

If you have any experience with this matter, I'd appreciate your advice and insights.

    thanks much,

Just to make sure, I installed Vista 64 again on both drives (I know, I am a masochist). This time I recorded the exact steps I took installing on Samsung first, and then duplicated them on the Mtron.

The Mtron still takes 25 seconds longer after waking from sleep to get general response.

Does anyone else have this experience?

    Hey,

I think I have the same problem. Recently installed Mtron 7025 on my XPS M1330 with Vista Home Premium x64. My laptop does not respond for about 15-20secs after waking up from sleep, I can move the mouse and click on icons but it doesn't launch/start any apps.

I don't think its the bluetooth driver. I had a hitachi 120gb before and it used to take over 30secs for my bluetooth mouse to connect. Still have that issue with the SSD.

    Oh hey, found a comrade!

The only difference is that my samsung 150gb doesn't have this problem when I put the laptop to sleep and then wake it up. The response is almost immediate.

I don't think it is bluetooth driver either, I have tried both microsoft supplied and the dell supplied, neither solves this issue, but neither causes a problem with the samsung drive.

I am guessing it is how vista puts hard drives to sleep and then wake them up. Maybe the drive isn't recognizing some initial wake up commands.

Have you tried to upgrade the firmware? I tried the SATA7025-32 firmware from Mtron's website, but it complained that my drive was incompatible. Currently in contact with Mtron to determine the problem.

I just got a response from Mtron. They are aware of this particular feature and are working on a firmware fix.

    Yay!

It's a bit of a stretch for Mtron to be calling it a 'feature'. :D

    That's good to know :)

My drive came with 0.17_R1 firmware, that's the latest one. Now to find a solution for the bluetooth issue.

Oh, they didn't. They called it a known "issue"; I was just being funny. I am actually quite happy with the fast response they gave me. :)

Err... How can you tell what firmware it is? I tried running the firmware updater, but the program quits and complains of incompatibility before it even tells me what my current version is.

Regarding the bluetooth issue, are you using Dell 355?

You can check the firmware in device manager. Click on the drive and go to the details tab. It's in one of those fields, can't remember which.

Yes, that's the one I have. I spent over an hour on the bluetooth issue last night. I have the assigned the wireless switch to bluetooth only. Here's what I noticed.

If I pair up the mouse only with bluetooth and if the switch is flipped off/on, the mouse reponds instantly. If I pair up the mouse and cell phone, then it takes about 30s for the mouse to respond after the switch is on. Next, I disabled all the services on my cell phone except file transfer, then it took about 5-10s.

When vista wakes up from sleep, it restarts the bluetooth service, for some reason it doesn't "resume." I can see the bluetooth icon disappear and reappear after waking up. Now the SSD takes about 20s to respond after waking up, then Vista restarts the bluetooth service, which takes about 30s to connect to the mouse. So in total it takes almost a minute.

I can leave my phone unpaired as I don't use the feature much. Now just have to wait for Mtron to release the new firmware to resolve this issue.

My guess is that Vista was able to restart the bluetooth service immediately after waking up because it didn't have to wait for the HDD, and you only had the mouse paired up with bluetooth.

I mean the response from using the touchpad was almost immediate; I could start programs right away with a samsung HD as if the notebook didn't go to sleep. The Bluetooth service still needs about 10 seconds for a reconnection.

With the Mtron, though you can control the cursor movement using the touchpad right away, it takes 20~25 seconds for the notebook to start running programs, and the bluetooth mouse won't respond until 10~15 seconds after that.

I'm in the same boat but I have more info for you guys:

Recently I just installed an Mtron Pro 7025 into my brand new HP laptop. I used HD Tune to benchmark the hard drive. It benches aroune 60mb/s when it first boots. However, the speed of the hard drive drops off significantly after the computer wakes up from sleep. The speed of the drive dips to around 3mb/s. If anyone have this drive, try to benchmark it with HD Tune and you will see.

Furthermore, I get BSOD whenever I boot the computer after it's been shut off. I get no BSOD if it's a restart or waking up from sleep. Anyone got this problem?

PROBLEM SOLVED: I finally solved my problem of BSOD at bootup and slow hard drive speed after waking up from sleep. It's apparently related to the Intel Matrix Storage manager, aka the SATA controller driver. I downloaded the latest intel storage manager and now the hard drive is about 15mb/sec faster than before!!!

80mb/sec transfer speed on average compared to 65mb/sec. Not to mention, no more BSOD!!!

    Wahhahaha
