Got a new xps14 but cant register it on My Dell Downloads. I log into my Dell account OK, click the Add New System link, tick to agree to terms & conditions. Then I get a note saying a DellSysPro active-x program is trying to run. I click yes to allow it to run, see a UAC dialog, click Yes to run the program; then nothing happens & I am returned to the previous screen without my laptop having being added.

Any ideas what is wrong? It previously worked for me as I added an xps17 last year, but can't add the new xps14 as a new system. Can anyone help - I clean installed my own Win7 system, so I need to download the Dell software to reinstall some of the programs.

When you reinstalled win 7 you may have deleted the small partition that contains the info my dell downloads needs to register your system. You may have to register by phone.

Can't you register by typing in the Service Code, rather than using the auto-detect feature of the web site?

IIRC, when this came up for me last may when my L702x arrived, I had already done a clean install on a new SSD. I was able to register and download OK.

Thanks for this suggestion. I think you were spot on.

I backed up my clean install drive image; then restored the "as-shipped" drive image I created before wiping and clean installing my new machine. After restoring the original Dell image, I was able to register the machine to "My Dell Downloads" and do the downloads of the software I needed.

Then I re-imaged the drive with my clean install image and carried on....

That is why it did not work for me. I did a clean install the day I got the system..
