No matter how long I search web or check emails, my Dell XPS 15z runs just fine. But when I watch movies, after about 5-10 minutes the fan becomes too loud. I can hear it from everywhere in a quiet room. I was told the issue can be fixed if I turn off Nvidia GeForce GT525 card, but how? I even don't know which one my laptop is currently running on, Intel HD3000 or GT525!![]()
I'm not a gamer.
Thank you for your help.

Hi Elpee_2001,
My name is Deepa and I work for the Social Media and Community Team at Dell. First of all, I would like you to check the video card of your system and you can check it by going into the device manager of your system. Following are the steps to check the video card:-
>click on start button >type devmgmt.msc in search programs and files >device manager will open up >click on display adaptor > check if it is Intel Integrated graphics or discrete Nvidia GeForce.
As such you can not turn off any video card but yes you can select graphics for particular applications. In case if you have discrete graphics(Nvidia) then you would get an option to manage the graphics for some applications. These are the following steps how to set a default graphics for a particular application that you want to run:-
>right click on desktop > go to Nvidia control panel and launch it > expand 3D settings and select manage 3D settings > on right side of the window click program settings > select a program to customize > Select the preferred graphics processor for this program.
If you want to set the default graphics for all applications then instead of going into program settings you need to click on global settings tab and then you need to choose the desired graphics.
In case you are not selecting any graphics while playing a movie, you may come accross some performance issues because of which I will suggest you to go through the following steps first before making any change in the graphics options:-
>Update the bios of the system. You have to download and run the latest bios(A10). Please download the latest chipset drivers as well which will be the second option( R296450.exe ) in the chipset hyperlink. You can refer to this link for doing the same:-

>Restart your system
If this fixes the issue, you dont need to make any changes in the graphics and that is how you can enjoy the better graphics on your system.
Hope this will resolve the issue and any further assistance please do reply.
Thanks and Regards

Thanks for the reply. It's fixed.
First, I checked and found my Dell laptop has all latest bios firmware (A10) and chipset driver (R296450.exe), and I got the issue. It means latest firmware and drivers are crap.
Second, from program settings, I customized intergrated graphic (not discrete Nvidia GeForce) to movie player software. Never heard the fan since then.
Once again, thank you. -
