And I dont mean the looks!

GTA 4 on initial config -

Dark Sector after changing heatsink and fan -

    AVG Anti-Virus scan at 2 am(ambient temps around 20c) -

Groundbreaking stuff, i must say. I'm amazed at how his thing didnt shut down...or burn my house down! I mean 97 degrees!!!

Ok, so any recommendations to hep this poor soul? Having replaced the mobo and heatsink+fan, what should be my final step?

Undervolt your CPU, that should reduce the eat a bit.

After that, try purchasing a notebook cooler to further decrease the heat.

Woah... that thing is running hot. my max GPU temp while playing GTA4 was around 74 (no cooler, using 6 cell battety). You should call dell and have them send you a replacement machine.

    T9400 (2.53GHz)
    4 GB DDR3
    ATI HD 3670

Not propped up but made sure nothing was blocking the exhaust or the intake and there is LOTS of free space around the laptop AND it is kept under a ceiling fan in a city where ambient temps rarely exceed 25c.

are u kidding 1640s dont run hot!!!! =p

    j/k

seriously, try propping it up on something. it made all the difference for me . at least try it out before a replacement arrives and see if it makes any difference. then when your replacement arrives youll be able to compare.

Dell sends you a replacement unit and then you send yours back in the box the replacement unit came in. They send you a little slip, so shipping doesn't cost anything.

A few people on this forum will make it a point to tell you that you're imagining the overheating. VIKRAM, ITS ALL IN YOUR HEAD! THE GODLY XPS 16 DOES NOT OVERHEAT!

Well, I think what those people said was that it's not supposed to run that hot; if yours is then you got a defective unit, get it replaced. Otherwise, how do you explain ZitchDog's not reaching that temp playing the same game???

Comment like yours just gonna start another flaming war over this...

I just say everyone post their temps whenever they make a claim about heat and we'll all be happy >.> (or at least we'll find something else to start a war on)

It seems that some of the configs are quite cool :)
The trick is getting the config which doesnt heat up.
Trekster you could try selling it for 200$ more on ebay and get the 16 when it comes out with the updated GPU :p
