I read so much bad on here that if I were a noob I wouldn't go near this system with a ten foot pole and your money, so here is a post from someone who really like his L702x.

Screen: Chai Mei. First one was horrid. Dell came out after a 5 minute phone call and replaced it with another Chai Mei screen. 2nd screen was ten times better then the first. Great service, great tech.

Keyboard: Nice keys, comfortable to use. Backlighting makes all the differance in the world. Touch pad works well enough, but I leave it turned off most of the time as I am a gamer.

Harddrives: 2 500 GB 7200 drives. Works great, they don't get hot and do just what they are supposed to do.

Graphics: This is where I tell you how much I love this system. I am a geek, but not so geeked I can tell you my exact game settings. I can just say that i have sat and played Skyrim on my machine while my son has played on the xbox with a 1080p 42" kick high def TV and on my l702x it looks like a movie compared to the xbox. SWTOR kicks on this machine as well. No overheating. Card overclocks nicely with MSI afterburner.

Internet is flawless, haven't had a single disconnect.

My system boots in under 13 seconds, facial recognition software works great. I did not do a clean install, I just uninstalled the crap I didn't want and it just works.

I know there are issues and I had one of my own. What about the good? What do you love about your system?

Boots in under 13 seconds? How did you manage that?

I am so sorry, I meant 23 seconds to log on screen. I haven't changed a thing, other than uninstalling the crap I don't want. As far as facial recognetion goes, it came with it. I actually didn't order the option, but it still works. At the top right corner above the keyboard, touch the gears and open settings, you should see it listed there if your model has it.

I've managed to get a refund from Dell for my L702X, seriously it's the worst system I've ever had, first Dell, and last Dell for me..

Screen broke, was sent a new one, Che Mei like yours, my original was an LG, the new one was grainy as hell, and could barely read text, the laptop fan constantly ran about 6000rpm whenever I done anything at all strenuous, always had to have the power saving settings active, run way too hot, the cooling system sucks in this laptop.

Trackpad is flimsy and messes up, the left click button is awful to push.

There are so many things about this laptop for a reason not to get one it's unreal, Dell have great customer service, but that's it, I presume there customer service is so good because they must get so many complaints from consumers about their products.

Anyway I've now migrated over to the wonderful world of a Macintosh, after using Windows for about 12 years Windows is now a distant nightmare, after the joys of OSX there is no going back.

    I'm now a happy owner of a iMac 27" (2560x1440) 3.1GHz i7 6970M.

Good luck to all those with Dell, and so long.

I find it strange a desktop with a 27" @2560x1440 screen is being powered by a mobile GPU

My L702x is beautiful, I love it and I would buy another in the drop of a hat.
I don't find it over heats except when I am playing games which is expected of any laptop.

The only real issues I have with the laptop is Dell's ridiculous idea to leave out a few standard keyboard keys like the Context Menu key and Scroll Lock
Apart from that it's a real beauty :D

I've been thinking of getting one of these myself. I've heard positive things about it from others, hopefully junglebungle's experience is a (relatively at least) isolated one.

@robcope, how's the audio on the laptop? With my last laptop I found myself listening to a lot of music on it because the speakers were very nice. I'm curious to hear what you think.

    @fluffy: Boardsie fluffy?

I hardly recognise you with that avatar on :p

I was gonna mention to you about the fan. If you put the max processor usage to 99%, effectively turning off turbo-boost, the laptop produces almost no heat. I was playing Portal 2 yesterday and the fan was barely on :D It's class :)

I know I've probably already said this to ya, so I'll let others tell you how amazing the speakers really are, but they are class, best speakers in a laptop I have ever heard! One issue with the placement though. Your wrists will cover both speakers if your using the laptop while listening to music, which will muffle the audio.

    Review Dell XPS 17 Notebook (i7-2630QM & GT 555M) - Notebookcheck.net Reviews
    Check the speakers section.

That's a pretty nifty trick. (99% processor max.) Is there any way in the BIOS to disable Hyperthreading? It strikes me that a laptop really doesn't need an eight-thread processor, and could do without the extra heat.

I've heard mixed things about the speakers. Some people say it's great, but there have been a couple that have come from Alienwares (like myself) and said the speakers are actually pretty bad in comparison.

And yeah, that's Boards and its horrible selection of avatars for ya.

I like the audio, is it perfect? No. Music sounds so much better on this vs my old HP HDX16. Movies sound fine and gaming is really nice. For a laptop I think the sound is great.

I would much prefer that method but unfortunately it's not available in the BIOS.
From a quick googling I think that option might be possible with a BIOS mod if you don't mind going that way.
