I was playing a game on my M1330 with the 8400 GS card, and then I finished and closed the lid. When I opened it up a couple hours later, it turned on and there was a blue screen. I held the power button to force it to shut down and then turned it back on, but it will not start. It just turns on and I can hear the fan and hard drive working. The screen stays blank and the DVD constantly clicks. There was no disc in the drive but it kept clicking. I put a blank CD in but it keeps clicking.
Is this a problem with the graphic card? I know they are defective, but I didn't think it would die already.

Probably a dead GPU. Are you still under warranty?

Did you write down what the blue screen said?

Yes, this does sound like you burned the GPU chip up. Give Dell a call and get them to replace the motherboard.

I have it under warranty. I am on a vacation right now though so I will have to wait until I get back. I have to use a weaker laptop now for the rest of the trip. Why would a burned GPU cause the DVD drive to click?

Because the motherboard, now dead, is not giving a signal to the DVD drive. The DVD drive is searching for something to communicate with.
