I apologise, this post seems ridiculous... but I just want to say a few things about my Dell XPS M1530.

First of all, it's stunning. I've had it for a few months now and it's still (almost) as gorgeous as the day I got it... granted, there's dust in the speakers (drives me a little insane, but what can you do?), a few marks on the screen (they come away with the handy screen-cloth that came with the laptop) and a few marks on the Midnight Blue casing (nothing too noticeable and through my own clumsiness) but in general, it's still the beauty that I took out of the box.

Only one thing has gone wrong with it, and that was to do with Vista rather than the laptop (the Gadgets at the side somehow interferred with the colour of my Taskbar; I had to get rid of them in order to change the colour of it, but I didn't feel too sad; they just frustrated me anyway!) - and other than this, it's been a complete dream! The 3GB memory lets me do all manner of things at once without a sweat; the 250GB hard drive is enough for all my music, pictures and word documents with enough space left over for my next three years at University, and...

EVERYTHING! It's all brilliant! The touch-sensitive media buttons, the light click of the keys, the brightness of the screen - I simply adore this laptop, and want to give it 5/5 for everything. I know that it's only a few months old and I have years ahead for it to mess up on me, but...

Well. Just wanted to give those that are buying their XPS M1530 a push in the right direction. I haven't regretted buying it for once second - it was worth every penny.

    :) :) :) :) :) :)

That was one of the best, honest, optimistic and encouraging post I have a seen around for the XPS M1530 :) I mean, I can see that you have written this with the real joy and happiness that this system is giving you :) Great you are enjoying it so much...

And YES, I agree with the above post... This machine has been awesome for me (and I have said this before, that whatever issue I had was with Vista and not even because of something within Vista, but simply because I was messing around :) :)...) And till now no defects, or anything... well, for me there is no marks on the screen or whatever, because I never touch the screen... :D :D :D :D and the outside I clean almost once every day :D :D :D :D Its been a great machine... stylish and nice :) :) I love it too.. and proud as well to be an XPS M1530 owner :) everything has been working so well and I was pleasantly surprised when I saw so many issues and replacements and defects being discussed about here.. anyway.. I hope everyone enjoys the M1530 :) :)

Have you tried using a can of compressed air?

It's also great for removing dust and debris from under the keyboard.

    Works a treat :)

    Hello fellow Brit! :)

Well, I noticed that too on my XPS M1730 in its early days, but it wasn't to do with Windows Gadgets - I noticed that my taskbar changed colour to black every time the Google searchbar was loaded, so I just simply removed it and then the customisable taskbar colour was back!

So if you have time, try my method as I'm sure there are some Gadgets that you will find useful. Take care!

Isn't that just how Vista Aero is??? Whenever I have a window maximized, my task bar turns a solid black and gray shaded color and so does my sidebar when set to be in front of all windows. It'd be nice if they both stayed transparent, but I figured that's just how they were made.

Awww, thanks guys! You've put a smile on my face. :D

I'll try the compressed air, and will be sure to be careful with it... don't want it destroying my laptop! ;) (Which is likely. I'm clumsy as hell.)

Hooray for this, an4rew - you won't regret it! Even with my specs (lower than yours) this laptop is fecking brilliant. It hasn't failed me once! :D

I just had to write my first post 'cos I've just seen so many negative ones (obviously; this is a place to seek help, but still!) and felt that people should see that they can be absolutely fantastic and not mess up from day one.

I'm glad, also, that I chose the Midnight Blue colour; the microsatin finish is so nice to touch (not in a weird way!) and the colour itself is gorgeous. Subtle. Changes in different light shades. Looovely.

Also really do adore the keyboard; I'm used to it properly now, and it really is so nice to type on - anyone else find this? It's so easy and has just enough click to it! ^_^

    Aaanyway. I'm babbling now!

Same here. Idling in the mid 60's now as opposed to low 50's a while ago. I'm definitely enjoying the 1530 though, it's the perfect for me and the performance is outstanding.

I agree. My 1530 is awesome and I've never had even one issue with it. It is an amazing piece of art. I just upgraded to the latest driver from laptopvideo2go, and the performance is even better. Congrats on your terrific machine!

In the US, we have this resolution. Some people complain letters are too small but I love it. I can get 2 full webpages side-by-side.

One minor issue is there is slight grainyness on white backgrounds and there's nothing you can do about it. The grainyness is very very slight and should not present much problem. Brightness is good and colors are sharp. The reason you can't do anything about it is because right now there is only one maker and model number for the 1920 x 1200 monitor- Samsung (SEC3255). Dell sent me a 2nd identical computer when I called about the grainyness and the 2nd computer monitor is exactly the same.

Hmm, I guess the graininess is to do with bad polarisation or rough finish. I had that problem with my Asus A8Ja, LCD by AUO I think. My M1730's Samsung panel makes my Asus' screen look really bad!

It annoys me when people complain about letters being too small - font size is easily adjustable in Vista and the browsers.

I've got the standard WXGA 1280 x 800 resolution - but it suits me fine. I don't need lots of windows up at a time, and I didn't need a higher resolution for the sorts of things I'll be doing at university.

*smiles* So the cheaper, simpler option works for me.
