I went through and ended all of the processes that I knew weren't vital, so do you guys have any other suggestions?

When you look at your computer details, does it say you have more than 3GB installed?

Where are you seeing the using "1GB" memory from? If your talking about PF usage, that is normal. If you can't explain, a screenshot would help. I don't think your memory would have problems since it recognizes it fine, but be more specific.

My physical memory usage is 32%, but will drop to 30 if I close internet explorer. -
If Antivirus is running.. thats not a VITAL process. Anyways, that irrelevant.
What your experiencing is PERFECTLY normal. With Vista it uses a bit more memory so even after closing all the processes on my laptop with 4GB ram T9500 processor, it uses up 1.33GB. My M1530 also shows up to be a little over 1GB as well.
You are fine. -

Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
You can also use this excellent guide to help trim that mem usage down. My 1530, with AV running, does not hit 1GB, more like around 800 MB.

Good luck -
Yeah I did notice lower memory usage when I installed my new drive, but after upgrading to SP1 and getting all the driver and fixes up to date, it floats between 950MB - 1.xx GB. Regardless, its really not that big of a deal. You clearly have plenty of RAM available already for multitasking. Lower that number won't make a real difference.

Are you noticing any slowdowns? Do processes run out of RAM during normal usage because used RAM isn't being freed? Have you disabled SuperFetch?
Vista's memory management is quite a bit different from XP's, and it makes much more use of available RAM to speed up the computer. The way I've heard it explained is that Vista will load up your RAM with frequently used data from the hard drive. This cached version is basically disposable, since it's a copy from the disk. If you decide to use this data, it has already been loaded and is on hand, so what you'll see is that frequently used programs launch almost instantly. If a new process decides that it needs more RAM than is currently available, the cached data is dumped and the released RAM is given to the new process.
People will complain that the release process is slow, but...that's the XP way of doing it. The data loaded in RAM by Vista is already on the disk anyway, so it's dumped instantly whenever a process requests it. This essentially means that hawking over your unused RAM is a waste of time, because "free RAM" doesn't mean the same thing in Vista as it did in XP, and you should probably start wondering exactly what your free RAM is being used for anyway. -
Vista caches things in memory that you commonly use. Them more memory you have, the more memory Vista uses to cache programs, folders, etc. in your memory (ram).
My M1530 is using 1gb of memory at rest, help please!
