Hi guys, first of little about myself. I live in CANADA. Just purchase my new laptop DELL XPS M1530. I heard lot about this laptop and finally decided to go this one. I did the highest configuration so I can get the best out of my laptop. Now yesterday I receive my laptop. Very disappointed that I didn't receive any extra goodies that I heard we get will xps laptops. Example cd case, airbuds etc. Well after I suck up on not having those goodies, I got disappointed with the laptop itself. The look of laptop is perfect very good. But the performance not sure why it sucks??? Like its very slow? I mean i thought this is core 2 duo and I upgrade to T9300 which should be real faster but Its very laggy after one hour of usage and things open very slow like an old desktop. This is like brand new , didn't even install anything on it yet? I am not really sure whats happening or if they made the wrong laptop according to what i order i was expecting some thing much faster. Also on the right side of screen you know we have gadgets, so one of the gadgest show some kind of speed of your cpu and ram. After like half an hour of usagethat arrow goes to the red area. And it sticks around like 85% cpu and 95% ram. Lastly I also was little confuse that you know where is the touch pad on the right side there are little stickers that says Windows vista and Intel centrino inside. So how come it doesn't say Intel Cor 2duo? why it says centrino? have I got something wrong. sorry for the long writing, will paste my configuration of this laptop below. Hope some one here on this forum can help me out , I know there are great experts out here who know quite a bit about these laptops (to be honest I learn more here instead of talking to the dell customer service). I don't know if i should return this laptop? or what i do. Waiting for your immediate reply. thanks.

to check my configuration please go to the link below. thanks

you need to uninstall the crapware/reinstall a fresh copy of windows

Centrino = combinato of a C2Duo processor and an Intel wireless card

if you got a dell wireless card, then the sticker would say C2Duo

No, this was very old, I believe they stopped doing this a long time ago.

It slows down after time? Is it significantly hotter?

Don't know about removing crapware (bloatware), but I highly recommend a good old fresh install of windows vista 64X..

After that you will say if the laptop performs good or not. (I'm sure performance will not be a doubt any more)

Also if you don't have problems with the old ugly windows theme you can try Windows XP, it will be the fastest stable OS you can get in your XPS .

Like I.heart.Ram said..The promo for the extra accessories ended many, months ago. You could very well call up Dell, and ask them what they are willing do for you for not receiving them! You may have to go thru several reps to get what you want.

Please see this thread for information regarding the extra accessories:
    Dell XPS Accessories:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=276220

Also, here is another thread to take a look thru:
Top 10 Questions about the M1530
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=238640

And, remember..if you are going to return the 1530, you have 21 days from date of invoice to return for a refund/or new replacement. After 21 day the replacement will be a refurb.

Hope that helps you some more.

    Cin ;) :)

the accessories are retarded and really not worth worrying about. my 1530 came right out of the box running very fast... and had very little "bloatware" to begin with. call dell and arrange for an exchange.

hi guys thanks for the great input. Now i read what you all wrote. Agree regarding the accessories (its ok i really don't mind if i didn't receive the accessories) but my main concern is the laptop itself. This is vista premium 64 bit so not sure all u guys saying install windows vista 64 bit i have that guys. Plus if you guys are saying that this laptop comes with extras inside install well that should really not matter ? I will be installing couple of programs and softwares on this laptop so WIll that make my computer slow? I mean this is the most powerful laptop in xps lineup , I upgrade to maximum but why is so slow? after an hour? or half an hour? i mean its not even getting hot? like ocuple of u guys say? Its very cool. not noisy at all. Just the problem that it giving me regarding not performing good. I don't know if centrino is good or not ? But please help me out here. Thanks for all the advice and comments of everyone who is giving :)

Get SysInternals Process Explorer and look for which process is taking up too much CPU or Memory. That way you can figure out if its an essential process or if you could keep it turned off, only to use it when needed.

Also check in Les' stick thread for some services you can turn off from automatically running in the background (there is a good page from BlackViper regarding this). Also there could be the possibility of some background processes / scheduled tasks running. You could check for them and turn them off if not needed. You could always run them manually, at least in most cases.

Mmmm I start thinking that maybe... MAYBE you are right, I saw one again the picture of your XPS configuration and I actually believe now that your XPS have a problem and is not the bloatware, maybe your T9300 can be defective (I hope NOT).

It's true that the bloatware make the system slower, but not the way you are explaining to us... and then, in your picture shows your CPU meter gadget to high (97%) for only running bloatware and then 80% of RAM used???!!!!!! and you have 4 Gig in a 64 OS!! ...
I have the same hardware configuration than you even same OS (Vista Home premium 64X), and I know this baby even with bloatware works fast and don't take that much of resources.

Also the T9300 is one off the fastest CPU for laptops right now.

Well again I recommend a fresh install or a bloatware remove, after that follow the les guide, if after Les guide the laptop still slow you will have to call Dell for a replacement, and don't forget to explain to them the 80% of RAM used and 97% of CPU used.

thanks for the input sir. Thats what i was thinking too that there must be some kind of problem in it , couple of questions more the centrino part is ok ? like u have centrino as well ? i mean what is this centrino? Also, do i need that blue ray disc combo that i have? what the use of it becaue it cost me extra $200 for it . to be honest i was very sad and dissappointed because u know when u wait so long for your laptop and when it arrives u are so excited but when i used it like oh my god i was so sad that it was so slow after half an hour or so . and when i restart right it will get back to normal but again then the ram and cpu go back to very high. ? very worried :((( I spent like $2113 (tax and shipping everything included , canadian dollars)

    Try running this: http://pcdecrapifier.com/

But yeah... could be something wrong with it I suppose. Dell should exchange it for you if that is the case.

Oh and also make sure that you're not in power saver mode. It's possible.

It won't get hot if you're not doing anything with it! Not gaming? It won't get hot. That is Vista for ya! Most laptops get installed by store clerks who just install all the bloatware utilities. Dell/HP/Sony/Toshiba whatever utilities plus all of the Windoze bloatware there is. No wonder you think it's slow. Plus, Windows drive system is inefficient compared to Linux and Mac OS. Anyway, follow the 'remove bloatware' guides in the forums and advice that experienced laptop owners provide. I think the Dell XPS line is probably decent and the Dell XPS section in the forums can give you good advice, too.

Use your PC to download all the recommended 64-bit drivers off the Dell Support site, then transfer to your M1530. Should be able to run perfectly after installing them.

Ok Here you are going to find every driver you need (including Wireless)

    http://support.dell.com/support/dow...emID=XPS_M1530&hidos=WLH&hidlang=en&TabIndex=

But don't forget to choose first your OS (vista 32bit or 64bit), since you don have internet or wireless in your XPS you have to download all the drivers in a different computer and use a Pendrive or external storage for transfer everything to your XPS.

Is great you are following the Les guide, but... you should do that after reformatting the system, meaning after installing the OS and every driver you XPS need.

Take care of your XPS, I hope you love it the same amount than I love mine.

hello thanks for the reply everyone. Especiallly terrapirata , I got my internet working. Now i am on the link that you posted it . just wanted to confirm that I should download all the drivers that are showing on that link? after choosing 64bit , the drivers are coming in each category like application audio etc. ANd i am not even sure if i already have some drivers on my laptop so where that overlap those drivers? or the computer will give me alert that i already have these drivers on my laptop. Note: I will be downloading the drivers directly to my laptop from dell website because my internet is working on it now so i don't have to back to my pc.

My 1530 will be in on Tuesday, but I just did a fresh install of XP on my old Thinkpad T60. I just installed all the drivers available. When I ran across the ones that were already installed it asked if I wanted to overwrite the old ones. I assume it is the same for the Dell, so you should know if it's already there when you try to run each one.

i mean why i am confuse is because u know dell send the cd for drivers and utilities. When i plug that cd in there are checkmarks on couple of drivers i mean more then couple. but they are not installed ? so how come they have checkmark, and how i got to know that becuase one of my thing was not working so i installed hte checkmark driver and then it worked? so should i install all the driver that are showing on that dell cd of drivers? or should i go the website dell.com to download all the drivers that are showing there. I don't know i think I might return my this laptop because what i heard on this forum that I got my laptop expensive like i payed for it $2113 tax and shipping included (canadian dollars)

ok, for flashplayer you have to go here:

    http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer

Just click on the "Get flash player 10 button" and if it ask you what to do with the file, i recommend to save and after downloading it close your browser and then install the file doing double click on it.

About the drivers, if you already have internet working, I recommend to download every driver from dell (first make sure you have a 32bit or 64 bit OS, Don't know which vista you just install jaja) and install them, if you already have some drivers installed and you try to install the same ones, it will show one windows asking if you are sure, don't worry if you installed drivers with your dell CD, because always those CD they ship with your laptop are outdated, so the latest drivers are in fact in the Dell web site, and is better install the latest ones over the old ones you already installed.

    Don't now abut finger print, since i don't use it.... :D :D :D

Well I think you did a LOT for only one day!.. the problem you have with the finger print reader is sofware related, maybe you need to turn on some options.. I Actually don't know.

I wonder how your performance is doing right now and how your RAM and CPU meter are now.. I think that is the real matter.

Also, Do not forget to follow the les guide (turning some service off and stuff) and you will be fine...

Get a friend to come over and help you. It seems like you are very inexperienced in what you are trying to do. If you are at university/college take it to the helpdesk they will help you out a lot. best thing to do if I was you would be to return it to Dell. I have the same laptop a little lower specs but the laptop blazes through everything. This seems like a hardware problem. Also if you do not need the bluray drive return it and get a warranty. $2000 is a lot to be paying for this laptop which is over a year old model. there should be new models coming out soon so I would suggest return and just wait it out for a month or so. There are some rumors of a new XPS studio laptop.

hi i don't know generally where the meter stays but right now the latop is on since five hours and the meter is at 78% ram and cpu around 77% . Don't know if that is normal but les guide sure did made impact on my laptop. But i think it can perform much better then that.

Return policy is a refund/replacement (new) if returned within 21 days of being invoiced.

After 21 days a replacement is a refurb....

So, if your going to do either, you need to be sure to move fast on this.

I think you got a defective CPU, You have to call Dell ASAP.

And then, you told us that the lappy is not hot, but after 20 minutes with the CPU on 77% that thing get hot, I'm sure about that!!!!!

    what? why?

Americans are hated in every other country, when i travel overseas i say i am Canadian.

before you say i am anti-American, know i served with distinction in the us army as a special operations unit member for 12 years. i have bled and caused men to bleed for America

Get a faster hard drive if you want things to open up quicker.

You guys forget the basics of Vista when it's first turned on. It will attempt to maximize the performance and will see the HDD light blinking while it's doing so and this will take at least a couple of days. It's probably the reason why the CPU load is max'd. You should have all the drivers and programs necessary to reinstall on the accompanying disc that came with it. If not, download and save first then install all the drivers from Dell's web site for Vista x64 . Afterwards Vista itself will update all the drivers installed thru Windows Update. Adobe Flash will not work with Internet Explorer 64bit, only on 32bit. If you want a quick synopsis of your system just type 'dxdiag' on 'start search'. The XPS 1530 is a great laptop but if your expectation is lacking then return it. But first you have to think logically and not freak out if something is not working. Forget XP and Linux they'll just make you more freaked since those OS are very particular on drivers. It's even harder to find drivers for XP on the 1530 and have to do a lot of research to get them which I don't think you'll willing to do.
