Before I get started ... I love this machine to death

But I'm stating to have issues that are a total inconvenience to me

For 2 months I been having trouble with my CD-ROM ... every time I insert a disc it wont read and sounds like a dying weedwacker !!! (I'm serious)

First time, dell sent tech with a replacement drive ... that didn't work so the tech called dell and recommended another a drive swap and a replacement mobo... so when the parts came in the tech got lazy and didn't want to do the mobo swap ... (understandable the SXPS 13 got a lot of screws lol), I didn't care how he did it , just get it working

And so he did, I was able to play a DVD and that was good enough for me, so later that day I went to install Microsoft Home & Student '07 and the I still having the same problem !!!!!

So I got a screwdriver and went in myself, and made sure it was probably aligned with the connectors and was in place ... which it was so I don't know what's wrong with it ... I spent a couple hours making sure it wasn't software related and it's not .... and this was a month and a half ago

I'm an Engineering student and work 2 jobs and so I don't have time to deal with this B.S. and forgot about it and now I got part of a project that I got to do ... I got no word and powerpoint !!!!

Now the first 2 attempts I had with dell to correct this issue was B.S. the reps wanted to take control of my computer ... I did, went to the bathroom and came back .... This Bi*ch was on my Facebook page !!!! ... I polity told her that I had class and will be dealing with this another time

I so fed up with this machine, before this I had:

    2 keyboard replacements
    1 palmrest replacement
1 Lid/screen replacement ... They promise to upgrade to an LED screen and arctic white but never the LED

And to top it all off, I think my suck a** wireless card just crapped out on me ... it won't work, It keeps dropping the connection and won't refresh itself

I'm at the point to I want a system replacement ... I rally don't want too but I think I got a Lemon, I should I let them fix what's wrong or should I ask for a replacement

Is this even enough to warrant a replacement ... they mite just give me a 1640 ... the only con I have with that is it's size but hey ... whatever

Sounds to me like a bad Optical Drive to be honest. Givin that you have had bad experience with Tech support just contact them via the chat support, and if the rep does not seem to know how to deal with the situation correctly, ask to talk to a supervisor. Just be Polite/professional with them and let them know you are not happy at all, and chances are they will be more then willing to help you out. As far as exchanging for another system that might be an option they will give you, just make sure you do not say that right off the bat, or give them a exact model you want (they dont like that much lol).

Guess I'll get on the chat with them tomorrow

If i recall correctly reading thru the forums there have been known issues with the SXPS 13, which is why they are currently not listed on dell's site for sell (im guessing they are revising it). You might not have a very hard time getting a different model at this point. Guess its a factor of how big you want the screen to be, or how small is too small. So id push for a replacement laptop at this point :)

Hi I also went through the same thing but not as bad as you do. Well the 1640 is heavier but nicer, and demand for a rgb led screen for all the crap they made you go through!! I had some problems too with the drive but just getting stuck and spending an hour and a half on tech support and while all i wanted to do was pop in a cd i haven't heard for a while and type my paper!! Well i just traded for a E6400 which i have now, but he told me that he was going through the same problem.

Just make sure you dont tell them you have read about problems with your laptop. but do let them know your not happy with the inconvenience you are having. If they offer to send a tech out to repair it, say i have had these issues before and i doubt thats gonna fix it, i am getting tired of all this, having repairs done all the time.

P.S: You have a 2010 Camaro SS ?? if so LUCKY!!! mustangs suck, i have a 97 Trans-am Myself and love it, but shes gettin old and showin her age :(

My optical drive crapped out this week. The Dell tech just left. He swapped it for a new one and it still had the same problem. The disc gets 3/4 of the way in, then the system spits it out. He called it in and said that the only option for me is a system replacement. I think I will try for a XPS 16 since this thing has been a problem for me.

They exchange like for like, but I have no idea where they get there matrix from... cause its virtually never like that...

LOL, don't you go in to a battle about cars. My mustang will come close in beating that SS hands down. It better after I did all that stuff to it :p Stock though, the SS will win, I admit that :p

    Hey mate,
First of all I understand your frustration, I myself have a 1340, started with a burned LED (the white ring on the screen) ended up replacing:
    3x screens
    1x mobo
    2x speakers
    1x keyboard
    1x palm rest
    1x optical driver
I live in Israel by the way so I get service from a local company who represents them here.
every time the tech came he broke something else, from what I have seen these guys just dont really know how to handle the 1340. its too complicated and they'r doing a really bad job on assembling it back together.
Just dont give up. call them on every little problem and let them come. I had techs coming over my place for like 8 times. now I can finally say the laptop is working properly and everything is good.

If they replaced your cd and it didnt work, tell them you want them to replace the motherboard as well, dont let them do what they want. I dont believe you got 3 bad drivers I think its a problem with the mobo connector.

Hope you'll get your laptop fixed soon...
