The HDD produce really loud noise, after I replaced it by a SSD, my system is quiet under idle.

It's accpetable in light tasking with comfortable noise.

The 500gb WD black that came in my 14 is nice a drive. But I'll be putting in the 128gb SSD that came in my Studio XPS 13. Probably going to put the WDBlack in my macbook (iTunes).

The HDD in my XPS 14 makes no noise. Not sure what the problem is with yours.

yes, I guess mine is probably broken. My 4 yrs old 7200RPM hitachi HDD runs super quiet

I don't know how the WD black HDD runs like a rocket

He probably got one of the Toshiba "deathstar" drives, for some reason Dell/AW switched from Seagate and WD to primarily Toshiba's a little while back. Toshiba purchased the rights to a drive from another company(can't remember who) that gained the nickname the "deathstar drive" as they were noisy, hot, and about 40-50% of them failed in the first year of use. Another intelligent choice to make the $$$ bottom line for Dell.

Interesting about the "death star" drive! Mine says "HIT" in the parts list which I assume is Hitachi.

They may have changed again, I know back towards the beginning of 2010 my replacement AW M17xR2 came with the Toshiba's and I was ticked, haven't bought anything with a standard hard drive other than my M15x since then and it came with a Seagate.
