In late February I got the wonderful idea to purchase a new notebook. Being that my last dell (Inspiron 1720) was such a durable, long lasting, and overall quite satisfying piece of hardware for the time; I had to have another Dell.
I don't know what made me decide to go with an XPS instead of a new model of the Inspiron, but I am starting to regret it.
When the XPS finally arrived at my doorstep, I eagerly opened the box and started it up right away. I played with it for an hour or two and noticed that there was a dead pixel. Disappointment quickly flooded my mind as I began to inspect the rest of the screen. Armed with a white background in MS Paint, and a microfiber cloth I scanned my screen as closely as possible.
Here is what I found:
A) 2 black (dead for sure) pixels, and a third that looked like a dead pixel, but was much smaller than the other two so I wasn't 100%. I am assuming that the bigger, darker spots were neatly organized clusters of dead pixels and the small, pinpoint sized one must be a single pixel.
B) Sadly, that's not all I found.
There were 6 or 7 gray spots on the LCD. Some in lines, some randomly placed on the screen, some big, and some small.
I don't know what caused them exactly, but they definitely weren't specs of dirt (at least not on the outside of the glass).
So I got in touch with Dell XPS tech support.
After an hour of explaining what was wrong, and running their diagnostic tests, they decided to send a technician out to replace the screen.
This made me happy.
Unfortunately, the screen replacement was just as bad, if not worse than the first screen!
It had 4 dead pixels, and 9 gray spots.
So, I got through the motions with tech support...again...
They decide to send another technician to replace the screen...again..
When the screen was replaced, the dell support guy called me back and asked how the screen was and if it fixed the problem.
At the time, I had only had a short time to use the computer and look over the screen.
I found one dead pixel off to the side, but decided to live with it as I was really just tired of dealing with tech support and the technician visits.
Well, now I've ran into yet another issue. The left speaker has gone out...so they are sending a technician to replace that..and that's all fine and dandy..
But since I've had this screen replaced, I've noticed YET AGAIN even more gray dots...so I've told them about the screen issues once again, and I am waiting for the call back to discuss it with the guy (when I talked to him earlier, I wasn't at my computer)...
I'll probably get it replaced again, because I really don't want to have to send it in and wait X weeks to get it back and have a computer..
So that's my experience with my first XPS...
Has anyone else had any problems with these gray dots?

dunno about dottiness, but there's a bunch of people unhappy with the screen quality of the l521x, particularly considering it's price.

Request for a replacement. They will send you a new one and you can send your old one back after receiving it.

Yes, my screen had grey dots. I noticed them after a while (days). The worst problem was the pixel grid. The grid was very obvious to me. I bought last month and exercised my 7 day right to return.
