    Hi all, this is my 1st post here.
    Well got my XPS weeks ago and came with Vista. So I've reformat it and did a clean install with XP pro SP2. Installed all the drivers needed from the dell support site, the disc came with my laptop is for vista drivers.
    Anyway, I deleted all the partition and only created 1 partition for my OS.
    After couple of days playing with my laptop, I've incounter a driver problem, don't know which one, a blue screen appear saying driver problem. And sometime, when i try to boot to windows, my laptop freeze :(
    So my questions is:
    1. Is there any chance i can install back media direct without reformating my OS?
    2. How do i resolve the driver issue? any software to detect this?
    3. Anybody have exprience can't log to windows?
    4. "The Dell Suport" & "Suport Center", worth installing?

    Other then that, I'm happy with my laptop.....Oh btw, it's running very HOT!!!!

    1. Unfortunately if you deleted all the partitions then there is no way to install MediaDirect without reinstalling Windows, especially if you have MediaDirect 3 (since your notebook came with Vista then it probably had MD3).
    2. If it is a driver issue then you have to install the correct driver or uninstall what ever the driver that causes the problem. Post the detailed error message you get in the blue screen.
    3. What do you mean log to windows ? you don’t get the welcome screen ? or you get some sort of an error ?
    4. I don’t know, because even though I’ve been using DELL notebooks for close to 2 years now, I’ve never installed either one of them.

    It adds some features you find in the SoundBlaster Audigy series sound cards; however it is only a software enhancement. Unless you bought the Audigy HD software edition when you purchased the notebook, there is no point in installing it because you need a product key to use it.

    Damn! then i have to format my laptop again...hm... oh well will just leave the MD for now.
    I did bought with the Audigy HD but it came with vista version so I've download the XP ver and did the install....but nothing happen or changes!! I'm still stuck with the Sigmatel and everything is NORMAL??!! So what is the point of me buying that? Or did i miss out something? I've even have activated it with my product key.

    Next time you encounter the blue screen write down the error description, it usually gives a stop error number or a file name. That may contain a clue to what is going on.

    69cents, when installing the drivers for the M1210 you need to install the Dell Notebook System software first. If it was not installed first, or if you did not install it at all, then I would highly recommend you install it and reinstall the other drivers. The reason for this is that the Notebook System and Intel Chipset software together are, basically, the motherboard driver.

    The list of drivers for the M1210, in the order they should be installed, is:
    * Dell™ Notebook System Software
    * Intel® Mobile Chipset Driver
    * Intel GMA 950 Video Driver or NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 7400 Video Controller (depending on the video option you selected)
    * Ricoh® 5-in-1 Media memory Card Reader
    * Broadcom® 440X 100/100 Integrated Controller
    * Wireless Mini-Card Driver (if applicable)
    * SigmaTel® STAC 9200 Audio Driver
    * SoundBlaster Audigy HD software
    * MDC Modem Driver
    * Bluetooth® Driver (if applicable)
    * Synaptics® TouchPad™ Driver
    * Logitech® QuickCam® Driver
    * Dell QuickSet™ Utility (optional)

    If you have any questions about the system or drivers, or if this does not fix the problem, please let me know.

    If none of that stuff works, then post the error. Also, download and run MemTest86 to check your RAM. It can do a longer stress test than the Dell BIOS can, and it will tell you about the tiniest glitch.

    Hello There!
    I am having the same issue with Dell 6400.
    I formatted Laptop.
    Solution:
    When we recv the laptop its configured with Media Direct 3 XP Pro operating System but Dell people do not send us that software.
    They send us An Application CD for Media Direct and Reinstallation XP Pro CD.
    When I contacted Dell guys to Send me CD - They want me buy the software from microsoft.
    Luckily My laptop is still under 15 days cooling off peroid so i would be sending it back.
    So, the only solution is to buy the software.
    Contact dell Customer Care and ask them about it.

    Take Care

    bananarama, The Media Direct CD will allow you to reinstall that application if you want to do a clean install of the system and still have Media Direct installed. Just make sure to install Media Direct before using the WinXP CD to reinstall Windows. There is also a Media Direct repair utility available on the Dell support website ( http://support.dell.com/support/dow...SPIRONI6400/E1505&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=) that could help.

    I am not sure what CD you requested, but you should already have all the disks you need for reinstalling Windows, Media Direct, and all the drivers and included software for your computer. The only software that might not be on the reinstallation CDs would be trial (or free) software available on the internet for Download.

    This page on the Dell.com website has pictures (click the Gallery link at the top) of the M1210, as well as other information about the system specs. If you have specific questions about the system itself I'll be happy to answer them. I don't have any of the sales info, but what technical information I don't know off hand I can easily find.

    Yes, you should be able to upgrade the hard drive if you wanted to. The one thing to make sure of is that the replacement SATA drive is the same height. The service manual for the system has instructions on removing the hard drive from the carry case so you can put the drive you purchase into it.

    Unfortunately, I don't have any information yet since I have not had a chance to check them out. On top of that, I'm not sure what information I can give out at this time, so I'd rather not give you wrong information or get myself in trouble. What information is available will be on the Direct2Dell site (Dell's public facing blog).
