Hey, quick question.... my XPS was running fine, just had the MB replaced a couple months back due to the GPU failure... all of a sudden it powered down instantly, just went dead, it was running on ac when it happened.
Now:
The power button does nothing, running on battery or ac.
If I plug it in with the ac adapter the little blue led on the adapter turns off, and won't come back on until I unplug it from the computer and re-plug it in the wall.
There is a slight smell of burnt coming from the vent, may just be mental...
My normal 1 year warranty is dead, does it sound like anything I could replace... wondering if it is the MB since I can get no power at all and the ac adapter seems to short out when plugged into the computer?
Thanks for any suggestions...

It sounds like it could possibly be that the charger has gone, which would explain why it doesnt turn on on AC also the battery could be flat which would be why it doesnt turn on on battery, if you know somone with the same laptop you should try borrowing there battery / charger and putting it on your laptop temporarily to see if it works.

Thanks... hmmm... I believe it was on good battery when it "died" and was plugged... The screen wasn't dimmed for powersave or anything
Also the charger does light up with the LED, but quickly "shorts" or loses power as soon as I plug it in to the computer, (computer is off)
Shouldn't it (the battery) have even a little bit of juice to start to boot up if it shuts down due to low battery?
I'll give that a shot though...
Thanks again... I can get a ac adapter from a Vostro that should work for the test... -
You should detach the battery and press the button on it to see if any LED's light up which would indicate any charge remaining.

it does sound like the power adapter is bad. i had this problem with an adapter. check if your battery has a charge by taking it out and looking at the green lights on the back.

hmmm... okay so have you tried pushing the button on your battery to see how much charge is left? if there is charge, then it means your motherboard is fried, and you need to get a new one... try looking on ebay http://shop.ebay.com/items/_W0QQ_nkwZxpsQ20m1330Q20motherboardQQ_armrsZ1QQ_fromZR40QQ_mdoZ
if there is no charge on the battery then its probably just the AC adapter.
the vents should smell nothing like fried circuit, if they smell only a wee bit to that, then it is your motherboard...
Best of luck! -
one laptop i had something got stuck in the fan and made a grinding noise and then smelled like that and caused the motherboard to short

Crap... it stunk for sure just slightly, but the smell was there, and it is gone now. My battery is at 100% charge... and still no response from the power button. Hopefully I didn't fry my chip...
I guess it's eaither sell for parts or get a new MB huh? -
Well I'll be... Dell is sending me out a box to ship the computer to the repair depot... My normal warranty expired six months ago, but I guess since they just replaced the MB for the GPU in Feb they will replace it again this time. Yay for Dell.

Nice. Good for you!
It might be that your M1330 is still under the "extra year" that is given for issues related to the problem with the 8400M-GS GPU.
My XPS M1330 died?
