just recieved my XPS m1530 and i am relieved to say that it looks perfect, the Screen is flawless will post a reveiw soon!!

    UPDATE:

    SCREEN
it appears that the screen is the dreaded SEC but neither the less it is still perfect, there is a minor amount of screen light bleed but it is barely noticable, as for grainyness i dont think ther is any and if ther is it doesnt bother me at all, also viewing angles are decent

    PERFORMANCE
atm it seems my 200gb 7200rpm hard drive seems quite fast and has 158gb of free space out of 173gb coupled with a 2.2ghz dual core and 4gb(3.5gb usable) of memory makes this a very fast machine

    NOISE
will check later in a more quiet environment

    VIDEO CARD:
will post benchmarks pre-clean install and after clean install with L2go drivers later

    MISC
Build quality is excellent, love the look of this laptop. Fingerprint reader works like a charm, wifi catcher works fine, webcam is very impressive.

I received mine yesterday and i have to say it is great. No noise that i can hear, DVD player is quiet, no whining sound. I do get a light hiss out of the audio jacks, but then my Thinkpad has this to, so i am not worried about it.
Everything works as it should. I got the SEC screen as well chatted with Dell online and then they called me to finish the chat and they are sending a tech out to fix it. It is not as bad as others have posted, but i figure what they hey, if they replace it then great.

I have the 250 gig hard drive, and i am showing a 4.8 Windows Experience Index. Not to bad if i might say so.
Played a little COD4 last night and it was great. I have the 1680x1050 and ran the game at 1440x900. I will try the 1680x1050 tonight.

So far, i am very happy with the notebook and i would say if get one.

I was gaming for about 3 hours last night with my Vid card normally clocked then about 1 1/2 hour later overclocked. The fan came on more when overclocked, For the total of the 3 hours i noticed the left palm rest a little warmer (location of the hard drive) but not uncomfortable at all, just a little warm. The bottom of the unit was also a little warmer, but again not to bad. this was sitting on my kitchen table.
I think it handles heat just fine.

As for the durability, feels good to me. no creaks or movement when transporting it around or when opening the lid.
With the lid open picking it up there is no flex.
comparing it to a new Lenovo widescreen i have on my desk right now, i would say the lid flexes a but more, but the base does not flex as much. The aluminum palm rest feels much better than the plastic one.

Like any notebook (except the rugged ones) i would not throw it across the parking lot, and depending on how it landed if dropped i think the screen would survive a crash, but again that depends on how it landed when it fell. I am sure the case would crack, but i also have a Thinkpad X41 Tablet on my shelf that has a crack and several dead components in the case after a fall (screen survived though, but Tablet is dead).

    Hope that helps.
Droni how do you feel the heat is?

Thanks for this. It's very helpful, especially the comparison with the Thinkpad.

I also took delivery of a 1530 (yesterday) and am completely happy and impressed. No build problems, screen is vivid, bright, and clear, the DVD is quiet, and the rest of the system is quiet as well.

I also did flamenko's famous system cleanser and am very happy with the results - fast and responsive. Finally I did the Vista tweak recommendations and the bootup and shutdowns are considerably faster. Hopefully SP1 will be out soon and Vista will be even snappier.

i have a windows index rating of 4.8 and my specs are
    2.2ghz duo core, 200gb 7200rpm hard drive (SEAGATE), 8600m gt DDR3,4gb memory,a 1680x1050 WSXGA+ and Windows Vista Home Premium (32 bit)

it does get a bit hot but it doesnt really bother me, in an air conditioned enviornment its perfect but i havent tried gaming yet

My 3dmark score (3832) was lower than i excpected with the stock drivers, this is probably cos the battery settings wernt on high performance, will tri again wen i get home

As for noise, i did notice the clicking of the hard drive but it doesnt really bother me cos im used to far worse with my previous concrete slab sized 8yr old dell latitude, after a while you dont even notice the clicking, dvd drive is quiet except for when computer boots or a as disc is inserted, when playing a dvd it is practically silent. i dnt think my cpu whines not 100% sure tho

I don't fully understand the Windows Experience Index analysis. I have a pretty similar configuration as you, but I have 3 GB of RAM and the WXGA+ screen. My index number is also 4.8, based upon the memory score. I don't know why 3 GB of memory would be the lowest common denominator in the analysis. All other numbers range from 5.1 (for processor) to 5.9 (for graphics). Isn't 3 gigs of RAM plenty for a 32 bit Vista environment?

The amount of RAM that you have installed only gives you credit up to a certain point. Once you hit the 2gb mark you get diminished returns on points for the score on RAM. A big part of the RAM score is your FSB speed and your RAM timings.
