    hey guys.

i had a gaming rig 3 weeks ago, and i decided to try out notebook gaming...
    so i sold my rig:
    E6600
    8800GTS XFX, 500 mhz
    ASUS P5N-e SLi
    Corsair Dominator PC6400

and bought a Dell XPS M1710...

i must say it is a good computer, especially good for gaming thou it is a laptop.

but the problem is that after some hours of playing it just says "im going to bed" and it turns itself straight off!?

strange for a computer that for some days ago just were on 24/7, and i woke up from bed started to play 4 hours, and shutted it down and nothing happend.

now i cant play because it just shuts down!
so any pro`s out there who can help me with this problem.

ive tried to put some books and cd covers for the laptop to stand on, so the ground surface of the laptop doesent get "that" close to my desk.

i really want to enjoy my computer, but i just cant...
it doesent allow me to.. :(

by-the-way i found something strange out, that when my nVidia drivers are set to performance the computer lasts longer before shutdown, than "quality" settings...
and ofc i play with quality settings because i dont want unclear textures 3 meters ahead of me when i play CSS!!! :(

It sounds like a heat issue to me. Are you overclocking too?
Since you bought an old model, I'm assuming you got it used from somewhere, so it's possible the vents need to be vacuumed out (dust).
Give that a try first, and turn down any overclocking if there is any. :)

funny, im norwegian you c, and i have this thread another place to get more tips to, and a norwegian guy asked if i had blown the pc with a compressor or something (as y0u said... dust), and its correct that i have bought it used, but it is the best model.
    7950GTX and 2gig ram, 2,16 ghz.

but whats up with that it is only shutting down when im playing?

btw, first tomorrow i will try to blow some air on it with compressor.
any tips in how im going to to it?
so i dont set the dust even more sticky?

    thx.
btw im not overclocking, that wouldnt bea smart move i guess...

Its overheating.. download HWMonitor and see how high temps are on idle, and when you put load

should have kept your desktop if you were gonna game

umm you have 3 cooling solutions:

-Cleaning out the fans (im not sure for XPS since i dont own one). Check the service manual or ask around
    -Cooling Pad
    -Undervolting

I have a feeling its dust clogged up, if the notebook is more than 4 months old

btw make sure your intake vents arent being blocked. To make sure of this, prop the back of your notebook by 3cm or more

and you are right, it was dust, i took a compressor and just pushed it out.
it wasnt much, but i can feel the computer is much more cooler when running games.
