    Hey Guys,

    Just gonna explain my situation straight up;

    So roughly 18 months ago I purchased my Dell Studio XPS 1645 laptop which was great, and then after about 5/6 months things started to mess up, the internet (wireless and ethernet) would periodically die for 1-2 even 3 days one end before deciding to turn on, the machine would over-heat and throttle whilst playing games even when I was using a cooling pad and using air conditioning at extremely cool temps. Naturally I call dell, they agree to replace necessary parts and that was all fine until about 3/4 months later same things started happening. This is now, I called dell explained the situation again which also included the hinges on the computer breaking of due to the glue becoming un-stuck and my "f" key to break off (I don't really know how). They agree to replace the stuff that needs it and my current problem is the damn dude.

    Today he was supposed to show for the third time between 4 and 6pm and he just decides not to come - for the third time. First time he just didn't show. Second time he calls me at 7pm saying sorry he picked up the wrong parts and now I'm writing this as this is the third day I've taken time off school in order to make it home and meet the tech dude who for some unexplainable reason he's not here.

    Solution:

    I want to call/email Dell and behave the angry customer and ask what the hells going on, but after having read certain threads on this forum I understand now that my laptop isn't "unique" with the issues its experiencing and in-fact many have been receiving replacements for faulty products. Am I viable for such an offer? and if so how do I go about asking dell for it?

    Would this replacement be better/worse/the same as my product (by the same I mean the same laptop just without the 'faultiness'.

    Yours Sincerely,
    Tim!

    You would need to have a number of repairs before Dell would consider replacement. 2 isn't going to get you there, usually it's at least 3 major repairs for the same issue.

    As for the tech, call Dell and complain that this tech is an idiot and has cost you 3 days so far. What you are describing is inexcusable.

    Do you clean your vents?

    My old Toshiba needs a cleaning every 3 or 4 months because fluff and cat hair get inside. I literally use a vacuum cleaner and wads of gunk end up stuck to the vent screen. I just pull it through the screen holes and it's back to normal. Then I use canned air to dislodge anything stuck in the heat sink or other parts.

    Your other issues definitely need to be resolved by Dell, but perhaps your overheating issue is preventable with some maintenance every couple months.
