Hey all,
Alright just one week of having my new XPS 1647 and this machine is a beautiful thing. I did a clean install using my windows 7 OEM disc and did a BIOS update. 1080p is wonderful and all around awesome. Last night was a different story though. As I was watching a movie using VLC player while browsing the net, my computer just froze with a ongoing tone then the blue screen popped up. I had to do a forced shutdown which in my case don't like to do. I thought it was just a error that couldn't hurt my system, but it happened again without the BSOD. My computer just froze with that ongoing tone, but this time it happened when I opened up Speedfan. I uninstalled speedfan because I thought this could be the problem and the error never came back. I just don't want this to happen again. Can anyone give me some advice to what is causing this. Hopefully i don't run into this issue tonight again.
Thanks!

Download Windbg and open the dmp file to check for the cause. It's located at C:\Windows\Minidumps

My 1647 froze with speedfan too... I un-installed it and it's been fine since... I didn't get BSOD though :S

BSODs aren't always something "bad." I have one mouse where if I plug it in seemingly any Windows 7 computer within seconds after logging in it will BSOD.
Sometimes it's just a software problem like with the mouse. In early stages of Windows 7, Daemon Tools would BSOD on install. In your case, hopefully it is just that speedfan program. -
I think it was Speedfan that caused this issue, uninstalled it and now it's been good to me every since. Thanks!

My 1645 just switched off (just like that, no blue screen or error info) twice. I was running firefox with 4 youtube tabs open. And MSSE was running a full scan in the back ground. Is this behavior common in 1645 or should i call the tech support.

Switching off without any indication is almost always caused by the system overheating. It isn't a good thing, but the system is designed to do that to prevent permanent damage.

Funny, I just got my 1st BSOD today from my ATI driver crashing.
