After 10 days of using my new XPS 1530, I will give it a 8 of 10 rating.

This is a great laptop. Looks great with a solid build. Great performance too. It is more then I thought it would be. A great value especially with the EPP discount I got it with.

The only flaws that I have noticed are the placement of the power connector being on the left side towards the back of the unit with the 2 USB ports very close to it. It seems very cramped to me. Also could have at least 2 more usb ports. But a USB hub takes care of that. I find this setup very ackward. Also the headphone jack being in the front. Again ackward to me. The speakers are very weak also. Finger print reader is very problematic also.

Other then these very minor problems, a great laptop!!! Solid!!!

You should complain about the fingerprint reader to Dell. I had one where I could enroll my fingers without a problem but could never successfully swipe my fingers thereafter. I had it replaced. You are within your 21 days so they will be very keen to keep you happy and it is the one thing on your list that you can do something about!

Best laptop I have ever owned. Have had it since February. It is the Product Red model, since purchasing it, i have added alot of upgrades and love it. Family and friends have threatened Intervention if i add anything else.

About the finger print reader......I had the same problem. I uninstalled the fingerprint software and reinstalled it and it work perfectly now! So if anyone else has that issue try it! Also if your finders are rally dry it has trouble reading them. If you moisten your finger it will work as well. I cant stand the power on the side either, always afraid im putting too much pressure on it when its on my lap. Other than that, some the panels on the bottom make popping sounds it you put pressure on them in certain spots, but you actually have to really do it on purpose. The speakers are horrible. The speakers alone disappoint me the most, this IS and XPS! 7/10 because of the speakers, other than that it would be a 9.

are you talking about getting the laptop replaced or just the finger print reader replaced?

Either, I guess. Although I would try the tip of uninstalling and then reinstalling the software first. If the software trick does not work, maybe try getting them to replace the fingerprint reader before getting a whole new computer on the basis that it will be a simple thing for them to come over to your house to deal with the reader whereas building a whole new machine, etc., is a bigger procedure. Anyway, my random thoughts.

Ya def try reinstalling, I was 2 seconds from calling dell and then figured what the heck....I would call them if it fails to work after that. I use the password bank for many things now, it works like a charm. You will learn what works and what doesnt, but my situatio was exactly like yasdaz's. It would take them in enrollment but not actually work. Every once and while it doesnt work, but its usually when im in a rush and do not swipe my finger correctly, so its user error. i wouls say it works with 90% accuracy now. Also, if your fingers are not clean(i work at a car dealer and get ground in dirt sometimes) forget it, you have to clean them first.

I know the scanner can be picky and you have to be deliberate when scanning...other than that it works well...
