Hey everyone! My new m1530 arrived today.

I must say it is absolutely brilliant. I have only one minor quibble. The lid doesn't quite sit flush with the back. It is about 1mm off on the left hand side.
But other than that the laptop if flawless. (apart from the bloatware, lol). I got the basic spec. It is incredibly quick and runs Vista like a dream. I especially love the keyboard, so easy to type on. No issues with the touch pad. The moniter is very sharp with no grainyness. (I got the 1200x800 which is perfect for a 15.4 moniter, not sure which make).
Sound quality is not bad for a laptop, the Acer gemstone speakers are better, but I use external speakers, so its not a major issue for me.
My god is it quiet. I'm not doing anything too intensive at the moment, but even so I would expect some noise, it is verging on being silent.

The laptop looks amazing, and is surprisingly thin and light.

So all in all, i'm extremely happy. Only been on it half an hour. I'll probably write some sort of more extensive review later. Now its time to get back to removing bloatware.

To be honest compared to other computer brands, Dell puts on a lot less bloatware then most of them. The only thing Dell puts on is Google Toolbar and Google Desktop. There's no trial software, nothing that is completely unneeded. The main thing is that they just have some things start up with Windows which you do not need to start up at startup.

Hey guys, i think i spoke to soon. I've just spent the last hour on the phone to tech support.

I configured vista fine, and used the laptop fine for about an hour, then I shut it down. Then went I booted it the second time the monitor wouldn't turn on. It works fine with an external monitor. So I rang them up and they ran diagnostics and changed settings (with remote access) etc, but they couldn't solve the problem. They are sending a tech in a couple of days to replace the monitor. I'll keep you updated with how it goes. Hopefully it should be all fine by next week.

    :S

As you're in the UK I'll ask, which accessories did you get with the laptop?

Eek! Sorry's for your troubles with the screen :(...

Well, at least the technician is coming in a couple of days to replace ;)

I had to have a technician come to my house (a few weeks ago), at like 6:30 pm, and he replaced the Motherboard! He was very nice, polite....and very delicate with my 1530 ;) :)

Hoping you have the same w/your Technician..; :)

Maybe it's just your avatar, but all those smileys in your post made me double take and read everything as one big sexual innuendo.

Hey the technician is coming tomorrow. I was wondering whether I should just ring up dell and get the to replace the laptop with a new one instead of them just replacing the monitor.

hey, the technician came today, and he replaced the moniter and he even replaced the lid (because the left hand side was not sitting quite flush.

He was very nice, and he has done an amazing job. It looks and feels brand new. I am using it now, so obviously it works. I couldn't be more pleased with the support from Dell. I can't understand why Dell support has got a bad rep.

It turns out the backlight had gone from the previous monitor. This new one is an LG and is amazing. I love my laptop.

This is great news to hear! I think if you get the *right technician* working on your notebook, that's just a good thing!
