Just recently the power brick of my studio xps 16 has been randomly maiking noises every now and then. They sound like a cross between a whistleing kettle and the whistle sound you get when you burn wet wood.

Does this mean anything catasrophic could happen like it suddenly shorting out and electrocuting my foot or is it just a common thing that happens?

you should definitely get Dell to send a replacement

a bad power brick might fry the system (sending too high current or ....)
