My laptop was on charge for a few hours and then my EXTREMELY HOT powerbrick started making noises and started chirping. Is that normal? What should I do? Is it a big issue?

Is the Brick still showing a solid *Green*, and is your battery *plugged in, and charging*? Any power fluctuations that you know of?

This is not normal, i had the same problem.
They sent me a replacement without any questions.
The new one makes no sounds, and it gets less hot, but i will ask for another one because the blue led is not working :(

I just got given a new one today for this very issue but I was rather dissapointed when it turned out to be a huge brick in comparison to my old power supply, it's like three times the size. Aren't we entitled to something that is at least as good as what we started off with if it is faulty?

Ryu, if you should be showing a *green* status on your brick! :)

Either way, you should not be having these problems. I think you might want to think about giving Dell a call and telling them you have a bad AC /Brick and have them ship you a replacement one.

They will do this for you. That way any potential problems you may be having are solved! ;)

When they send me a new power brick, do I have to send my old one back? You see the issue is that i am at another country for work and I will be here for a while. However, I will be coming home for 3-5 days in a few months and I would like for my new power supply to be ready for me by then. I will deal with this sometimes-chirping powerbrick until then because I really do not have a choice. But since I will be able to stay at home for only 3-5 days, I dont have enough time to send them my current powerbrick and wait for the new one. Suggestions?

    thanks in advance

    Hi Ryu,

I had the same problem as you and I called up Dell and they sent me a new one that has not made noises since. Don't worry, you keep both adapters (at least i did)

Oh man, I thought I was the only one having this problem.

I had my SXPs 16 for a little over a month now and my charger keeps making those chirping/loud buzzing noises too. At about 70% charge level, the noise starts up. I even had my laptop exchange for another one but it still makes that horrible noise.

So all I need to do is call Dell and tell them to send me a replacement charger? Or is it more complicated then that?

Nope, it shouldn't be a problem..it's covered under your warranty.

Call em' up and tell them what is going on and you would like them to replace your AC / Brick.

Should be a piece of cake... ;)
