Hello all,
Well my XPS M1530 came on Tuesday, and i havn't spent too long on it with work and college, but i am extremely impressed with it indeed. You can see that machine that i have gone from, and i tell tell you now, the build on this is excellent, as good as if not better than that of my ASUS, which i was very impressed with when i bought it.
When i ordered it i was some what 'hairy' about the screen problems and ordering the 1440x900 screen, i thought i might well get an issue. But the screen is excellent, its 'AUO' by ID and i havn't noticed any lighting issues either. Its actually a brighter screen than my ASUS and obviously isn't a clearer picture too.
Bloatware wise, i think what people have said about all the 'useless junk' that Dell will give you, but i havn't got anything on it that wasn't some what useful in some way or another, apart from an internet subscription and a McAfee install too, which i cleared off quickly. After a quick msconfig, it was all sorted, boot up was still quicker than my ASUS and system resource usage is very acceptable too.
The battery life is great too, i was getting a prediction of up to 5:30 hours running on balanced using a word doc.
However, the left palm rest is quite hot indeed i am not sure what exactly is located there either, i have run Everest, but only having the trial i can only view my Core Temps which are at 40-48. Could it be my hard drive producing that much heat?
Incase you want to know, my notebook was built in Ireland, the specs are as follows:
Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 @ 2.4GHz / 3mb / 800MHz
4096mb 667MHz RAM (Samsung, CAS 5)
Samsung SATA 320GB 5400rpm
8600M GT
9 cell Battery

Yep.. That's the hard disk.. There is absolutely no cooling provided to it,apart from some vents underneath, so it does tend to run hot. Wait till winter,it'll be very comfortable then
-
If you undervolt your processor you'll see significant cooling for cpu temps. But yeah not too much you can do about the warm palm rest.

Get a dell bluetooth mouse and forget the palmrest alltogether.

Thanks for all the replies. I suspected the hard disk, as my old T2300E ran much hotter with less less noticeable exterior heat.
Well i do have an external mouse, a Razer Diamondback Plasma in fact, but i generally use the palm rest whilst typing, which doesn't everybody? -
I type with my palms elevated (not touching anything). That's how I normally type (I didn't deliberately alter it).

Hi!
Congrat's on your purchase!!
My palmrest get's a tad warm sometimes, but it's something I don't really worry about ~ as, it tends to go away after a bit (and it's not that bad)!
My thoughts on the XPS M1530
