HAHAHAHA
I only find that so funny because mine came in today, and is also waiting under my christmas tree.
but they payed for half -
Whats so good about this lappy? For the price there are much better options.
-
-
Well I was going to get an inspiron but i was paying too much for weak specs, so I cancelled. Then the dell rep suggested the xps and I went with it. I wish now that I'd upgraded the processor and graphic*** card with the 200 dollar coupon but that came out after I ordered. :/
lol, its like torture, I know it's there. Oh well only about two weeks left :] -
I agree its sexy, but the low res screen would be the major put off. -
how bout the asus C90s, desktop cpu with desktop performance and better gc.
-
Well, congrats first but can you ask your dad to let you test whether the lappy is okay or not? You know Dell's return/refund policy has time limit...

Thank whoever's up there that I don't celebrate Christmas. Unfortunately, mine will be coming on the 7th of January which sucks major golf balls; I ordered it today. The graphics on the c90s are in no manner better than the XPS. The XPS comes with GDDR3 256mb 8600m GT as well, and most c90s come with the 8600m GT anyways. Besides, the desktop CPU soaks up battery life and increases heat.
-
C90s batt life is about 1h 30m. The C90s can take either the ddr3 or ddr2 8600gt, just matters on which one you buy. if you bought the xps for gaming, then the c90s is a much better option because of screen res, price, and desktop CPU which will run faster clock for clock than a mobile cpu (in my experience).

When is it 21 days from? I hope it works okay, I'll ask my parents about it later.
I'm really regretting not upgrading processor and graphic card though
oh yeah and i regret not getting 9-cell as it will probably cost much more separate. -
-
How can I find the date of invoice? [Sorry if this is a dumb question, just not sure] -
-
Ah, I kind of cant get to that because it's wrapped up.
Guess I'll just have to hope once I use it that I'm not disappointed with processor and graphic card.
And of course that there are no defects. -
If you are planning on doing any gaming you will be. Id say at least a 2.0 ghz cpu and the 8600gt now that games are becoming more graphically intense and more CPU intensive (AI, physics, triggers with multiple outcomes, etc) your 8400m wont have a usable life much longer than, well, now. here you can see a comparison of the 8400gs against the 8600gts (yes, they are both desktop, and yes that is a GTS, not a GT, so take off a couple frames to get realistic results from the 8600). That chart shows the 8400 only able to achieve a average rate of 15 fps on Battlefield 2142 at 1024x768 with max qal, tri filtering, no aa. Dont expect to play COD4, let alone Crysis with much (if any) eye candy on. Id say at least return it for a 2.0ghz cpu and the 8600gt. You may not have a laptop til January, but at least you wont hate it the second you start to use it.
-
Well I'm not really a gamer, I just play the Sims 2. It just seems that since I'm going to be paying for this i should get the best system I can. And with the coupon i could get those specs for about 20 dollars more and qualify for 150 giftcard instead of 100. But at the same time I'm extremely impatient and not having it for Christmas would pretty much kill my spirit. -
-
Call and tell them the price changed on you... within 21 days a price change over $50 will be matched by Dell... no need to settle to pay $200 more... -
-
Any advice?
Geez, I hate having regrets. -
...that's probably why half the gifts I've bought for other people have had to be re-wrapped about 2-3 times
I wouldn't regret this, you're still getting one of the sexiest looking laptops of 2007, and those are still some good specs. Not the best, but still pretty good. If you're only playing Sims on it, you'll be fine. Mine is configured higher but I'm a big gamer. To increase the speed of your boot up times I would say find a fry's electronics or something similar and buy a 7200 seagate sata HDD. Other than that for just Sims 2 and normal computing, you have a pretty sexy laptop and perfectly fine specs. -
Im not positive Izzu, but I think if you re-read you will find he was saying he was having regrets about the specs he chose. He chose the 1.5ghz processor and 8400m gs, but he thinks he should have got the 2.0ghz and 8600m gt. He just didnt think abut it before he ordered
.
Correct me if im wrong though. -
-
I would strongly encourage your to open your system before your return period passes. People have already been complaining about grainy screens on the m1530 and with other problems that happened in the 1330, you should keep an eye/ear on a whiny CPU as well.
I wouldn't worry about returning your system and re-ordering one with better a better cpu. Gaming is restricted by the gpu more than cpu, so your 1.5ghz is also sufficient to run any current applications/software with ease. -
And to sleey0,
Look at my laptop for example. I payed 1200 for it to my front door. The equivalent xps 1530 would be 1419, excluding the $100 vid card upgrade since I have an ATI HD2600 which isnt as powerful as the 8600gt but more powerful than the 8400. Yes, my screen is 14.1 inch (I bought it for ultra-mobile gaming), but the resolution is the same as the XPS's 15.4 inch screen. IMO they coulda gone with a higher res for that size. Dell is going in the right direction with this laptop because not everyone wants a 13 or 17 inch screen (I myself, for example, prefer 14.1 inch) but they can cut down the price, i mean $125 to go from 1gb to 2? Dont even get me started on the $500 for getting 4gb. I payed $11 for my corsair 1gb stick (to add to the 1gb it already had) and I know for a fact that Dell gets those sticks cheaper than I did. -
Thanks for the replies.
I don't think my parents will let me check it out until Christmas. I found the paper that was on the box but it says "not the invoice" on it, so I'm guessing thats not the right paper.
Are they any essentials that I would need with a laptop? This is my first one so I'm not sure.
I was thinking of buying a cheap tv tuner and a bag or usb mouse with the 100 giftcard. Any suggestions?
Thanks! -
Wait.. if you paid for the laptop, why do you have to wait for it? Are your parents trying to pass off a gift you configured, paid for, and ordered, as their own? Or even worse, as a gift from 'santa'?
Kinda ruins the x-mas spirit, doesnt it? -
Lol and no, not a gift from Santa
PS how do I check for cpu whine? i'm working on my mom letting me test it out. I'm not sure what i should look for though -
Okay well I convinced my mom to let me check it out.
Oh my gosh, i loveee it! The screen was perfect, no grain! Sound was pretty good. At first DVDs wouldnt play on dell media but then i did a quick setup of dell media and they worked. It felt really fast, and I love the design. I didn't get a chance to check sound with headphones, but I don't think theres a problem with it. I didn't notice a lot of noise, the most noise it made was when I put in POTC3. So it's pretty much amazing and I can't wait until I'm allowed to keep it. [less than two weeks!]
oh and they gave me two remotes, lol! only one pair of headphones though.
I would have taken pictures but my time was limited. On Christmas I'll take some :] -
Take care of it and it will take care of you! -
My xps m1530 came...
