Is there any fee that you have to pay to return and exchange your laptop for a different one from dell?
I just received it on the 25th of Feb and the new penryn is out. I called up and said i want to return my current m1530 and get the new one and they said it costs me $99 (to send back to them) on top of the new laptop
Is that right?

That sound slike a restocking fee which many companies have so it doesn't sound out of the ordinary but go on the Dell website and check it out.
-
Get on the phone and call until you reach a rep that tells you otherwise.
If that doesnt work out, remember Dell isnt in the free 30-day trial business. -
lol, why is it some ppl say its a 30 day return period when mine was only 21 lol.

As far as i know, if it is within 21 days you can return it for a full refund.
I called before and complained about the LCD resolution (higher res not available at time of order) of my XPS m1530
and the rep said as courtesy he can arrange a return authorization without any fees on my part. the m1530 was even out of the return period. Dell is known to bend policies to satisfy their customers. So i guess you just need to find a good agent.

"21-Day Return Period for Certain Hardware and Software Products and Accessories: Unless you have a separate agreement with Dell, or except as provided below, all hardware, accessories, peripherals, parts, and media-based software that is unopened and still in its sealed package or, if delivered electronically, that has not been downloaded, may be returned within 21 days from the date on the packing slip or invoice for a credit or a refund of the purchase price paid, less shipping and handling and any applicable restocking fees."
Restocking Fees: Unless the product is defective or the return is a direct result of a Dell error, Dell may charge a restocking fee of up to 15% of the purchase price paid. -
Dell has a 30 day complete satisfaction policy. It is obviously within 30 days, so there should be no fees at all.
-
it used to be 30 days but i think it got abused that is why they changed it to 21 days.
-
I was told this on Monday by Dell agent regarding the return policy:
"Earlier it was 21 days and not the
policy has bee changed to 30 days and you can return the order." -
thats even better. When i was still working as rep for dell a couple of years ago, they changed the standard 30 to 21 days. glad they're back to 30 now.
i wonder what the 21 day return policy is for. maybe just not updated perhaps?

If your laptop has a problem and is defective... Then I think you are not liable for any fees! That's what happened to me... Had the Samsung screen (twice) and I'm going to send the (2) laptop back next week (i first got my laptop on the 15th of January)... no fee! Next thing to get... Alienware M15x!!!
If you just want to send it back... just because you don't want it... then you have to pay the transport fees!
Good luck -
In Australia its only 15 days for the return policy.
I called them up and they said that its a cancellation fee and a fee for the courier to come and pick up the laptop from my house.
