I just put in a new mother board on my XPS M1330.. Everything went well except....... 1) My media direct button is acting like my power button.. It turns the computer on, but won't turn if off if I hold it down. The power button does nothing. It won't turn the computer on or off.. The only way to shut my computer is with the OS or unplug and pull battery... 2) I'm getting a message saying "system modular bay cannot be identified".. It won't read my DVD Optical drive. I've checked it twice to make sure it is connected firmly and correctly.. Everything is put back together perfectly.. I downloaded the lastest BIOS and flashed it, still same problems. It's reading my C: Drive as my hard drive and my D: (which should be my optical) as another hard drive.. I only have one HD.. Any advice... Thanks in advance..

With that many issues, I would suspect that the motherboard is no good. Where did you get it from?

I just purchased it off ebay.. It was a refurbished one direct from Dell still in the packaging.. I'm assuming it's the exact same one I would have gotten from Dell had they sent it to me. Oh, and I picked it up from the guy so I know it didn't get damaged during shipping..

Does he have a receipt for it? Dell offers a 90-day warranty for refurbished items.

I don't know if he has a receipt or not, but he is sending me out another board.. I just don't know if the problems I described have to do with the motherboard... Furthermore, it really sucks to have to take that whole computer apart, AGAIN.

Well, considering all of the problems do involve the motherboard, I would definately say it's at fault. Especially since it's the only thing you changed. ;)

I would say you have a ribbon cable to media dirrect pannel on wrong or not seated backwards.

I would reseat all your cables-- the media dirrect pannel could also be faulting.

    retrace your install
