Have to say, I'm a bit curious now.

NVIDIA has stated manufacturers forbid NVIDIA from updating/releasing drivers for the GO/M series cards. Now, why all of a sudden, after 1+ years is Dell allowing them to issue an updated driver?

Specualation (MY thoughts only - NOTHING official):

    1. Is there a connection with the die/manufacturing issue?
    2. Is Dell at a crossroads where they have caught enough heat by not updating their Geforce drivers in a timely manner and are considering a policy change? Perhaps NVIDIA and Dell have come to an agreement where NVIDIA will handle driver releases for the mobile series...

Another point I'd like to make...

After having installed several drivers from laptopvideo2go, I do notice one difference. When using any of the 'modded' drivers, the system fails to require a reboot once you enable SLI. I usually just restart it once I adjust my settings in the NVIDIA control panel. I have noticed however, with Dell's only release for the 8800m driver and of course this one, the system will prompt for a restart as soon as you hit the apply button after enabling SLI in the control panel. This leads me to believe that somewhere, something gets mucked up with the changes laptopvideo2go makes to the .inf file. Not saying this impacts performance or anything else, its just an observation and you have to wonder why... ;)

As I type this I am now running the 175.32 driver. Install went fine. So far the temps appear fine. Wont know for sure until I put it through it's paces. Will add more once I do.

I also noticed the rebooting difference when enabling/disabling SLI using those drivers. Not sure though if this is a good or bad thing that the laptop reboots or doesn't reboot itself when changing SLI settings.

so 175.32 for 32-bit vista would be the equivalent of 167.51 for 64-bit vista ? looking for the latest forceware and drivers package for dual 8700M GT cards.

Just started mine up with the new drivers there a while ago and running grand at the moment. Haven't done any major benchmarking yet, but more major problems seen yet.

Does anyone know, by any chance, if the HL2/source/TF2 engine supports sli?

Anyone else using this new driver yet? What's the good word on its results? Is laptopvideo2go thought to be better when it comes to these drivers? Should we wait until they modify the .inf?

I have tested the following drivers and can say source engine games run fine without issue with SLI enabled:

175.19 (straight from NVIDIA, force install method) -- Very stable and better performance than the stock Dell driver.

175.32 (newly released from NVIDIA) -- Currently installed and testing

175.80 (laptopvideo2go) -- Smooth. Very nice temps and stable

177.41 (laptopvideo2go) -- This one produced lower 3DMark06 scores for me

177.79 (laptopvideo2go) -- Higher idle temps for me. Also saw some artifacts in 3DMark06 along with a lower score. I'll pass on this one but you be the judge.

    -----------------
Well, after a 3 hour TF2 frag fest using the 175.32 drivers (No OC'ing or CPU undervolting done), I checked HW Monitor which was running in the background... Temps were as follows:

    View attachment 22062

No stutters or artifacts. Seems to be nice and stable - I think I'll stick with them for a bit...

Very, very good post batboy. Rep +1. Do you plan to OC or undervolt at all?

Well, since I only really play TF2 on this thing, I probably wont mess with OC'ing the GPUs. Perhaps one day when I really want to push this beasty... As for undervolting the T9300 - yeah, I want to give it a go - need to find the time to review FlipFire's Guide and try it out. Probably will wait for a Lazy Saturday... Of course it will mean another thread. 'T9300 Undervolting on the M1730' - lol

I just read the guide, and I'm apprehensive about doing it. I still just don't grasp the dynamic profile versus capping - I mean I do understand it, but I don't know what I need to do. I have no plans to OC, just undervolt to limit heat and prolong longevity. I have no plans to ever use my battery, I basically use the system as a desktop machine always plugged into the power brick. I guess I just don't understand how to strike a balance between the CPU performance and the voltage, and I'm OCD about getting the most bang-for-my-buck, so I'll probably never get around to it.

Thanks for the info about the driver! However, I do have a problem regarding it. At first it works properly, but when I have enabled SLi it refuses to boot. Anyone else had a similiar problem with 8800M GTX on vista32, m1730? I am clueless, would be happy for help!

EDIT: When I'm enabling SLi I get to choose between Screendisplay and Seiko. I havn't seen anyone getting the same option while enabling SLi, I don't have any other screen plugged in except the LCD keyboard display. When enabling I choose Screendisplay which causes unable to boot. I have no idea what that Seiko option is, perhaps it's reffering to the keyboard display?

I dunno dude, 177.79 work perfectly for me, lower max temps than the stock dell drivers and no artefacts or stutter in 90% of the games(except for Crysis once in a while).
