In the studio xps 13 series, 2 kinds of graphic cards are listed:
    1. Nvidia GeForce 9400 M G
    2. Nvidia GeForce 9500 M G

I am eng. grad student and will omst likely use my laptop for apps like matlab, labview, movies and occasional adobe ps. I will mostly refrain form gaming. What should i opt for since the latter s 110$ costlier?

The 9500M G is technically two graphics cards. With this option, you still get the integrated 9400M G, but also the dedicated 9200M G. As quicklite points out, unless you do plan on gaming or other intense 3D modeling applications, then the integrated 9400M should be just fine.
